Geology

First Five Chapters: Intro. to Geology, Plate Tectonics, Minerals, Igneous Activity, Volcanoes Essays (50 points total). 1. Explain thoroughly how it took 55 years (from 1915 until 1970) for the hypothesis of Continental Drift to develop into the theory of Plate Tectonics. READ THIS! – In other words, use the theory of Plate Tectonics to show how the Scientific Method was used to “flesh out” the hypothesis of Continental Drift put forth by Wegener, by adding new data provided by new technology and people until general buy-in was obtained in 1970, when the term “Plate Tectonics” was coined. (Chapter 1, especially 1.3, The Nature of Scientific Inquiry; and Chapter 2, especially 2.1 through 2.3, and 2.9, “Testing the Plate Tectonics Model”). Do not spend time discussing what came before 1915! Wegener did a great job of laying out the evidence he had available at the time. After your introductory paragraph, I do not expect to see the name “Wegener” again. Your answer should be no less than 500 words. Be sure to explain: (25 points) • WHO were the key players? • WHAT were the key observations and conclusions? • WHERE were the observations made? • WHEN were the key discoveries made? • HOW were these discoveries accomplished, including fields of study, equipment, etc.? 2. (25 points) In your answer, include a discussion of: • the plate tectonic process involved • the origin of the magma and rocks • the composition of the magma and rocks • the type of eruptions that occur there • other geologic features associated with Andean-type mountains. For these questions, check the text and MasteringGeology Study Area (of course), and also study the links on the accompanying materials. It should go without saying that you should have successfully completed the Mastering Homework for the first five chapters. Important: know the meaning of the word PLAGIARISM – no plagiarism!

Moral and Political Philosophy

1.) Read the following scenarios or issues from the Discussion and explain the problem or issue that it involves.
In a public park, a small religious group wants to place a statue commemorating their religious ideals. The City Council considers this and feels that there would be no harm in doing so, but as soon as all the other numerous religious groups in the area hear about it, they also want to place statues in the park as well.
What is the just way to resolve this issue and who should decide? Should the City Council allow everyone to place statues there even if that many would clutter the area, should they ban all statues, should they only allow statues of well-established religions or religions with very large followings in the community, should they hold a vote in the community to decide, should they take the issue to court and allow a judge to decide, etc? What should they do?
2.) Then choose TWO (2) thinkers and/or theories from the text and briefly outline what you think the respective view of each thinker /theory would be on this Discussion topic. Choose from John Locke, Friedrich Nietzsche, Thomas Hobbes, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and William Godwin
3.) Critique each thinker/theory’s view and determine which (if either) is more effective in this situation.
4.) Explain which of these views on this topic you agree with more and why? What do you think about the issue? Your research paper should include:

Disorders of the Veins and Arteries

disorders such as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT). While the symptoms of both disorders are noticeable, these symptoms are sometimes mistaken for signs of other conditions, making the disorders difficult to diagnose. Nurses must examine all symptoms and rule out other potential disorders before diagnosing and prescribing treatment for patients. In this Assignment, you explore the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation of CVI and DVT. To Prepare
1. Review the section “Diseases of the Veins” (pp. 598-599) in Chapter 23 of the Huether and McCance text. Identify the pathophysiology of chronic venous insufficiency and deep venous thrombosis. Consider the similarities and differences between these disorders. 2. Select a patient factor different from the one you selected in this week’s Discussion: genetics, gender, ethnicity, or behavior. Think about how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of CVI and DVT. Reflect on how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these disorders for a patient based on the factor you selected. 3. Review the “Mind Maps—Dementia, Endocarditis, and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” media in the Week 2 Learning Resources. Use the examples in the media as a guide to construct two mind maps—one for chronic venous insufficiency and one for venous thrombosis. Consider the epidemiology and clinical presentation of both chronic venous insufficiency and deep venous thrombosis. To Complete Write a 3- to 4-page paper that addresses the following:
1. Compare the pathophysiology of chronic venous insufficiency and deep venous thrombosis. Describe how venous thrombosis is different from arterial thrombosis. 2. Explain how the patient factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of CVI and DVT. Describe how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these disorders for a patient based on the factor you selected. 3. Construct two mind maps—one for chronic venous insufficiency and one for deep venous thrombosis. Include the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation, as well as the diagnosis and treatment you explained in your paper.

counselling

Consider how to counsel suffering clients. In fact, a careful reading of the Reading & Study materials indicates numerous concepts and principles that we could apply as we counsel those who are hurting. 1. Considering the numerous points that were made, make a list of at least 5 concepts (“questions to ask myself as I counsel those who are suffering. . . “) that you found particularly helpful, insightful, unique, or had not thought about before. What guidelines would you particularly emphasize as you counsel hurting people? 2. Then consider this client’s statement: Client: “Dr. Counselor, I have been coming to you now for six weeks. I am not sure that counseling is working. I don’t feel any better now than when we started talking. Why are you not helping to remove this pain that I am feeling?” If your client expects that you help to remove the suffering, how would you respond, based on what you learned from your study for the week?

Jainism and Sikhism: give a personal reflection on various religions of India

give reflections about Jainism and Sikhism:
Question prompts:
1)What did you know and/or think and how did you feel about these religions when you entered this course?
2)What would you say are the three most interesting, important, and/or valuable things you learned here about these religions? Why did you find them interesting/important/valuable?
3)In what ways has your learning here changed your understanding and/or perspective regarding these religions? (in contrast to your response to the first question, above)
4)What lessons, values or insights can you take from these religions to inform your own life?
The paper has to be personal reflection combining the 2 religions Jainism and Sikhism

Response & Reflection

Reflect on your new learning:

  • What does this mean to me personally?
  • Where do these ideas fit in my reality?

The purpose of this assignment is for you to:

  • Reflect on the meaning and importance of the course material from your personal perspective
  • Apply the ideas to your own life
  • Reflect on the potential impact of the learning on your own present or future behavior, attitudes and actions
  • Engage in self-reflection related to the learning process
  • Apply your learning through use of real-life examples
  • Develop new ways of explaining ideas
  • Enhance or expand on ideas
  • Reflect on how the learning has affected you on a personal and/or professional level
  • Demonstrate appreciation for alternative perspectives, finding some value in it, even if you do not personally agree with it entirely

Specific Question Prompts:

  • What did you know and/or think and how did you feel about this religion when you entered this course?
  • What would you say are the three most interesting, important, and/or valuable things you learned here about this religion? Why did you find them interesting/important/valuable?
  • In what ways has your learning here changed your understanding and/or perspective regarding this religion? (in contrast to your response to the first question, above)
  • What lessons, values or insights can you take from this religion to inform your own life?

Suggestions to make sure you write the best personal response you can:

  • Scan through what you have written to see where you have first person pronouns: I, me, my… If there are more than a few lines in a row that do not indicate such terms, then you have likely slipped too much into descriptive fact and away from personal perspective on the facts.
  • Also look for terms like “because” that explain why you think or feel as you do about the facts. When you find yourself writing about what you find interesting, important or valuable, see if you have gone on to answer the question of why you find it so. Avoid trending off in the other direction to describe what it is.
  • To get more depth of thought to your “because” statement, think about how the ideas, beliefs, values and practices of the religion might relate to your own life, your own worldview or religion, and/or those you observe in the world around you – imagine what it would be like to be following these ideas and values and how your life or that of our society might be different if we all lived this way.

What this assignment is not to be:

  • a summary of the facts regarding the religion in question (rather than more personal in nature)
  • an overly negative critique of the religion in question (discussing what is wrong with it)
  • a personal testimony or something you could have written without benefit of your learning in this course – based entirely on prior knowledge and experience
    • What if your study was on your own religion? I expect that there should be something new you have learned here – perhaps something about the history of your religion, or about other forms (denominations) of it, or simply having gained new insight or perspective on things you did already know. This new learning is what you should focus on.
