Assignment 1: Train the Trainers

Assignment 1: Train the Trainers
Here’s What Happened . . .
After your report was presented to the Centervale chief of police, he realized there is a need for training for law enforcement officials. Using the Simpson case as the basis, a proposal was presented and approved by the mayor to fund a special project.
You have been asked to produce a written training curriculum to educate the trainers of Centervale’s law enforcement officials about dealing with crime victims. The chief has asked you to cover both stranger violence and intimate violence. Your curriculum will supply trainers with information that would assist them in training new recruits, first responders, and detectives.
Here’s What You Need to Do . . .
· Prepare three short scenarios that could be used as training material. In the training material, include the three areas of stalking, intimate violence, and stranger violence.
· Following each scenario, generate questions that the trainers could present. Be sure to offer answers to these questions, with support, as a handy guide for the trainers.
· Finally, design a summary for the trainers that they can use to end their training. The summary should:
· Highlight the differences between criminology and victimology and why it is important for law enforcement officials to have a basic knowledge of both. Use examples from your created scenarios as support. Identify the relevant theories that pertain to violence against women. How can law enforcement make use of these facts?
· Explain the importance of law enforcement learning more about proper treatment of victims in order to ensure the system does not revictimize them. Consider how interviews, order of protection service, time until arrest, safety planning, and lethality assessments play into this treatment.
· Create a curriculum:
· Develop three to five questions for each scenario. Focus on relevant victimology or criminology theories, victims’ rights, lethality assessments, and proper treatment of victims.
· Develop potential answers for those questions, including the reasoning behind those answers. Hypothesize how past inadequacies in victims’ rights, as they pertain to law enforcement, might have led to different endings to the scenarios.
· Predict the danger level for each victim and connect to the necessary actions of the advocate or the detective that will come from this alert.
· Create a solution that would properly treat victims in order to ensure the system does not revictimize them. In creating a solution, consider these questions:
· What can you recommend should be done for the victim?
· What can you recommend should be done to the suspect?
· What resources are available to assist law enforcement in working with victims?
Note: Use APA-formatted in-text citations and external sources that are referred to on a corresponding reference page.
Submission Details:
· Save the final presentation as M5_A1_Lastname_Firstname.doc.
· By the due date assigned, submit your final presentation to the Submissions Area.

GEOG 1301 RESEARCH PAPER-compare and contrast the physical geography of a pair of assigned nations

GEOG 1301 RESEARCH PAPER
Each student will compare and contrast the physical geography of a pair of assigned nations. This writing assignment is designed to provide students with a more in-depth understanding of prominent physical geography features in two different assigned nations. Additionally, the assignment will provide a more thorough understanding of human/nature interaction, along with environmental issues, within these nations.
The nation pairs are listed below this assignment.
Look at the syllabus schedule for the due date. Late Penalty: As stated in syllabus
Writing about nations other than the ones assigned to you will result in a 30% reduction of your score.
The paper needs to be at least 4 full pages of writing total. It needs to all be turned in as one single essay paper, complete with introduction and conclusion paragraphs and a thesis statement. See Page 3 for the list of questions to answer for the paper.
Format:
Papers are to be double-spaced, 12-font with 1-inch margins. No cover page is required. Have your name written at the top of the first page, with a title and page numbers. Your paper needs to be organized in paragraph form, including an intro and a conclusion. The intro paragraph needs to have a specificthesis statement that gives an overview of your analysis of the material in its entirety (This is best written AFTER doing all the research and writing for the paper).
The amount of writing on each of your two countries should be roughly equal in length.
Any photographs, maps, tables, etc., need to be attached at the end of the paper only, and they do not count as part of the length of the paper. If you want to attach a cover page, it will also not count towards the paper length.
Grammar, Spelling:
It is expected that these papers are free of excessive grammatical and spelling errors.
Sources, Bibliography:
You must have at least 5 academic/scholarly sources total and list them in a bibliography at the end of each paper. Use MLA or Chicago Manual of Style which you can Google to find websites with examples of this format.
All sources MUST be cited in the body of your paper (see “In-Text Citations” below) AND listed in a bibliography, otherwise you will receive a score of ZERO for the paper and potentially an F for the entire course!
Copying and pasting over 20% of your paper from another source, without providing citations, is an automatic F.
Only 2 of the scholarly sources can be encyclopedias. Once you have 3 more scholarly sources (from books, etc), you can add additional encyclopedia articles if you wish.
Scholarly sources include: Journal articles from college library or college library website. Books from researchers (at college library). Most encyclopedias (not Wikipedia). “Dot-gov” websites.
Non-scholarly sources include: News articles, pop culture websites, magazines, or other forms of mass media.
Recommended starting points: – World Factbook from CIA.GOV (an online encyclopedia)
· Academic Search Complete (a journal database)
· JSTOR (a journal database)
In-Text Citations:
Parenthetical citations are to be placed at the end of EACH sentence where you received a quote, an idea, or a statistic from one of your sources.
Examples of in-text parenthetical citations: http://www.aresearchguide.com/sampleparenth.html
No more than 10% of this assignment should be quoted word-for-word (even if in quotation marks). To avoid plagiarism (copying another’s writing without giving credit), you will need to provide citations within the body of your paper.
A good rule of thumb is that if you have at least a couple citations in each paragraph, you will probably not be accused of plagiarizing (unless you often quote word-for-word without quotation marks). However, you will still lose points if you do not cite ALL of the sentences which need citations.
3 Ways to Avoid an Automatic ZERO:
-Use parenthetical citations as needed inside the body of your paper.
-Do not copy multiple paragraphs from other sources without citing.
-Remember to include a Bibliography page at the end of your paper.
The 4 parts of the course paper:
Part 1: Lithosphere
– For each country, what is one major geologic feature (can include mountains, desert, plains, coast, etc)?
– Briefly describe these features, how they came to look like how they do today.
– How are humans using these features (tourism, nature reserve, sacred lands, extracting resources, etc)?
– Does human use of these features create concern for the future of these features, or the wildlife found on them? If so, explain how, and describe what is being done about it.
– Print pictures of the geologic features, or maps showing where these features are located, and attach them to the back of the paper.
Part 2: Atmosphere
– For each country, describe the year-round climate found in the majority of the country (climate charts called “climographs” will help with this). If there is a wide variety of climate types in one country, just pick one city and describe its climate. Be sure to include information about temperature, precipitation, and seasonal changes.
– How has climate change impacted your assigned nations? What is being done about it?
Part 3: Hydrosphere
– What is one major body of water found within, or adjacent to, each of your assigned nations? Describe them, and give a brief description of where they are found.
– How are humans using these features (fishing, tourism, wildlife etc)?
– Does human use of these features create concern for the future of these features or the living organisms found within them? If so, explain how, and describe what is being done about it.
Part 4: Biosphere / Environmental Sustainability Challenges:
– What are several of the most common species of wildlife (plants or animals) in your assigned nations?
Which ones are native to your nations, and which ones came from elsewhere (called “exotic” species)?
– How did the exotic species arrive, and are they threatening the existence of any native species?
– Sustainable development involves balancing the environment, the economy, and society to achieve the best long-term benefits for all. What type of sustainable development programs/efforts exist to improve your nations’ environmental problems that you discussed earlier in this paper? Your answer can include actions being taken by either your assigned nations or other nations providing assistance.

Presentation: International Terrorist Group Journal Article Analysis-RJ2 WEEK 3

Presentation: International Terrorist Group Journal Article Analysis
Prior to beginning work on this week’s assignment, read the Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 9 in Martin (2016), and review Part I “How to read research articles on terrorism” in Capron and Mizrahi (2016).
This assignment is designed to contribute to your research for your final assignment, the Counterterrorism Strategy due in Week Six. The research conducted for this assignment may be used in your Weeks Four and Five discussions and interactive assignments as well.
Using the search for full-text scholarly journal articles related to terrorism theory and your chosen international terrorist group. It is recommended that you utilize the same search criteria on terrorism theory as outlined in the Interactive Assignment in Week Two, with the addition of your chosen terrorist group. As a reminder, follow these steps for your search:
· Select “Advanced Search”
· On the next screen, enter “terrorism” in the first search box.
· In the second search box, enter “theory.”
· In the third search box, enter the name of your terrorist group.
· To focus your search further, under the “Limit your results” heading, check the following boxes: “limit to full text” and “limit to scholarly/peer reviewed.”
· Finally, select the “Search” button at the top of the page.
· After your results appear, select the box next to “Academic Journals” under the “Limit by Source Types” heading.

Narrow your selection to three articles, of which you must select one for your International Terrorist Group Journal Article Analysis. The articles you select must be different from the ones you selected in Week Two.

Your chosen article should focus on at least one of the following elements: the underlying causes and effects of terrorism, the historical socio-political structures that contribute to terrorism, and/or the ethical and legal issues from either the perspective of the terrorist group or the government.

The Scenario. This interactive assignment is a continuation of last week’s assignment in that you will continue your role as a staff officer in your chosen federal department (the DHS, DOD, or DOS); however, the focus of this week’s journal article analysis must be on the international terrorist organization you chose in Week Two from the partial list of terrorist organizations adapted from the U.S. Department of State. As the staff officer from your chosen department, you will prepare a new presentation on this week’s chosen journal article to present to your Program Manager that is appropriate for use in developing and shaping a policy to counter terrorism efforts of a specific international terrorist group.

Your presentation must include a minimum of five sections, in addition to title and references slides. Each section must contain a minimum of one slide and a maximum of three slides. You may include visual enhancements in your presentation. These may include appropriate images, a consistent font, appropriate animations, and transitions from content piece-to-content piece and slide-to-slide.

For complicated issues you should script your comments in the speaker’s notes section of the presentation. You can find the speaker’s notes in the “Click to add notes” section at the bottom of each slide.

In the role of staff officer, you must convey the critical elements of this second scholarly journal article to your program manager. Your presentation must demonstrate your ability to write succinctly and effectively. Each slide should reflect distinct organizational and creative efforts.

Your presentation must adhere to the following:

· The first slide is the title slide which must contain the following

· Title of presentation

· Student’s name

· Course name and number

· Instructor’s name

· Date submitted

· The first section must address issues presented by your boss from last week’s presentation.

· In the second section, you must summarize the author’s credentials, briefly describe the publication, and include the full APA citation.

· The third section must summarize the author’s main points in the journal article.

· The fourth section should address how the article reflects at least one of the following as it relates to your chosen international terrorist group.

· The underlying causes and effects of terrorism

· The historical socio-political structures that contribute to terrorism

· The ethical and legal issues from either the perspective of the terrorist group or the government.

· In the fifth section, evaluate the chosen journal article’s contribution to the topic and how it aligns with the expert opinions of the two other articles you reviewed.

· Final Slide: APA formatted Reference Page
