Principles of War

1.Explain the fundamental differences between attitudes toward war in ancient China and Anciet Greece, Rome and emerging Western Europe.  Once you’ve noted these cultural differences, please explain how they account for different modes of fighting, taking into consideration the obvious differences in technology.  Do you think ancient China would have fought the way Greece, Rome and neighboring cultures did barring any technological differences?
2.Consider the nine principles of war (noted in the syllabus and elsewhere).  Based on your understanding of the readings, which were most important to the Chinese?  Which were most important to the Greeks and Romans?  Considering readings in Week 1, did these emphases change in Europe after the Military Revolution?  Cite examples to defend your answer.
3.Based on your readings, assessments and knowledge, is warfare an art or a science?  Cite examples to support your argument.
4.Some scholars (e.g., Victor Davis Hanson) have argued that individual freedom and the the power of free enterprise are responsible for the West’s prevalence in warfare since the Golden Age of Greece. Do you believe that? Present evidence for and against the point, and explain why it is or is not true.
5.What accounts for the growth and professionalism of military forces?  What, social, cultural, political and economic factors made war so frequent and common, especially in Europe?

Archaeology-BOOK REVIEW

200 words for each question – try to answer as completely as you can – feel free to use your textbook, and you might want to look at the Internet for outside sources.  If you use other sources, note the website or resource you used for your answers please.
Look at p. 422 the location and timeline for sites emphasized in Asia and Africa.  Then, respond to the following questions 1 and 2:
1.    Provide a summary of the dates, uses, and location for the development of pottery at those sites in the chapter where pottery is described.
2.    What is the significance, style and/or design, and assumed purpose for the rise of various temples, including some with altars, at some of the sites in this chapter on Asia and Africa?
3.    What does the environment have to do with state development?  Hint:  Use Chapter 4 Ancient Mesoamerica, Chapter 5 South America, and Chapter 6 States and Empires in Asia and Africa to present your argument.
4.    Egypt:  It often represents the pinnacle or “most exciting” area for archaeological interpretation.  From pages 445-456, is there information given in this section that confirms, in your mind, to this fascination with Egypt?  In other words, what are some of the reasons for the continued lure of Ancient Egypt?

personal reflection

Rewrite to sound more convincing and educated
As a young sailor, I had the same attitude as most Sailors when they enlist; four years and I’m done. However, over the past ten years I have come to embrace all that the Navy stands for. I have adopted the Navy Core Values and made them my own. I understand that the work of a naval officer is very involved and requires a lot of commitment. Since I have been on recruiting duty I have promoted, and supported diversity in many ways, such as putting in people from all cultural backgrounds. I have learned how to accommodate any and every one, and help them solve issues in which they didn’t think could be solved.
Having an aviation background, which is one of the most stressful jobs in the Navy, I have the hands-on experience, on how to adapt too many different situations on a high volume. In my career I have been placed in countless leadership roles, whether it is Flight Deck Supervisor, Work Center Supervisor, Team Leader or Enlisted Recruiter; where I am responsible for over 1250 high school seniors.  When I look at Surface Warfare Officers, I see some of the best officers in the world, and I couldn’t be more honored then to serve as a Surface Warfare Officer. Being a Surface Warfare Officer will allow me to challenge my mental and physical abilities, learn and lead the best sailors. By being a part of this community I am able to bring to the table, a young adult female, who has strong leadership skills and the determination to always want better and carry out any task the Navy requires.  I have had the opportunity to learn from officers that were instrumental in my personal and professional growth, and I look forward to serving in the same Wardroom.   A MUST SELECT TODAY…

business Operations

Operations are an important management function in an organization. The role of operations management changes as companies react to the business environment.
Using the Argosy University online library resources and valid Internet sites, search for an organizational chart of a manufacturing, service, or technology company looking specifically for one that shows a change in the operations function. Typically, such charts can be found in published annual reports of public companies.
Based on your analysis of the chart, respond to the following:

  • Review the annual reports over the past three years and see how the operations management function has changed.
  • Examine the financial reports to understand the competitive and market challenges the organization is facing and then analyze the importance of operations in the organization.
  • Explore how the organizational function has evolved to keep pace with the changing competitive and business landscape.
