Reflection

mith, Turkel & Wolf (2013) Chapter 21
Summary: The purpose of the weekly reflective journal exercises is to allow for analysis, synthesis and evaluation of nursing theory using guided questions. Reflection has been referred to as a process that happens internally, privately or in isolation (Hill & Watson, 2011).  Also a useful definition of reflection has been referred to as the examination of an issue of concern, as a consequence of experience, creating clarity and meaning in terms of self, and which results in a change of perspective ( Boyd & Fales, 1983).
Directions: Complete the Reflective Journal questions presented in your Smith, Turkel, & Wolf (2013) text as defined in the course outline.  Post the responses to the questions in the D2L dropbox.

1) Email evidence is some of the most important evidence that can be collected. It is the primary source of information gathering during a forensic sweep. (Haggerty, Haggerty, & Taylor, 2014). Emails are believed to be point to point, and because of this the writers are more candid with their thoughts. What many individuals don’t know is that there are many points of contact the email gets routed through, and it is easily traceable and readable even if deleted. Email forensics do not have to be reactive, enterprises can use them to proactively scan for the leaking of data or classified information. Forensic analysis, not just for email, is highly effective in determining and deterring Employee internet abuse, unauthorized disclosure of corporate information, industrial espionage and Criminal fraud and deception cases. The importance of email in digital forensics is understood by many departments, and because of this many have a laboratory that is dedicated to this. The staff here can sift through emails efficiently and present them in an easy to view fashion for cases. (Hayes. 2014).
Tools such as eMailTrackerPro can be used to identify the IP address of senders by analyzing the header data. (Banday, 2011). It also contains an abuse reporting feature which can automatically identify the ISP of the origin IP address of the sender. The ISP can then use this report and account of activity to prosecute or block the account holder. This is a very effective tool in putting a stop to spammers.

2) Computer forensics is the retrieval, analysis, and use of digital evidence in a civil or criminal investigation (Hayes, 2015).  The article that is summarized below discusses how a neighbor (Barry Ardolf) went on a vendetta against his other neighbors (Matt and Bethany Kostolnik), turning their lives into a living nightmare.  It started when the Kostolnik’s moved next door to Ardolf and their child wandered onto Ardolf’s property.  Upon returning the toddler to the Kostolnik’s, Mrs. Kostolnik witnessed Ardolf kissing the 4 year old on the mouth.  The Kostolinik’s reported the incident to the local authorities.  Ardolf was furious with the allegations and decided to unleash his computer hacking skills to inflict psychic damage on his neighbors to make them feel vulnerable in the own home.  Ardolf decided to get even with the Kostolnik’s by launching computer attacks them.  Ardolf went as far as creating fake social media accounts and link child pornography to the account to try and get Mr. Kostolnik fired from his law firm.  When the law firm caught wind of what was going on, they hired an outside law firm to look into the issue and found that there was an unknown device with access to the Kostolnik’s router.  The investigators asked the Kostolnik’s if they could put a packet sniffer on their device to try and get to the bottom of the incidents they were experiencing.  In May 2009, the US Secret Service came to the law office that Kostolnik worked and asked about several threatening emails that were sent from his Yahoo account, that were traced to his IP address addressing threating statement toward Vice President Joe Biden and other politicians.  Upon examination of the packet logs from the packet sniffer, it was found that the data surrounding the threating email traffic actually contained Ardolf’s name and his Comcast account.  With this information a search warrant was issued and the FBI was able to search Ardolf’s home finding physical evident of the crimes that he was trying to pin on the Kostolnik’s as well as hand written notes to the Kostolnik’s warning them of how dangerous he was and how he could ruin their life.  Through the use of computer forensics is was shown that Ardolf had unauthorized access to the Kostolnik’s home router and conducted the illegal activity to try and ruin the Kostolnik’s lives.  Ardolf was sentenced to an 18 year prison sentence for cyberterrorism.

Below I have marked out sections for this example. For each part, describe what is happening musically in the best detail possible. You should describe aspects such as what instrument(s) is playing, how instruments are interacting or supporting each other, repetition of melodic ideas, what is happening rhythmically, and dynamics. Also identify the iqa cycles wahdah or maqsum in any given section. I have provided an example for the first section to get you started, and to show how descriptive you can be when describing one instrument.
Section 1, 0:00 – 0:58
This opening section starts with an ud taqasim. It starts with a short melodic phrase that repeats twice. Then you can hear the fast tremolo picking of the ud as it makes its way up to the higher notes, and then winds its way back down to the lower register of the instrument. So far there is no percussion present and the flow of the melody seems like it is in free rhythm. Then there is a slight pause followed by the ud playing a descending melody, from high to low. It begins to slow down and quiet down as it reaches near 56 seconds. This signals a coming change. There is another pause at 57 seconds, then a three-note phrase from low to high that brings in the rest of the ensemble.
Now for you to describe the rest in:
Section 2, 1:40 – 2:42
Section 3, 2:42 – 3:24
Section 4, 3:24 – 4:29
Section 5, 4:30 – 5:38
Section 6, 5:40 – 9:44

Civil Rights Versus Civil Liberties

Activity for Assessment:
Civil liberties and civil rights are mechanical components that have tremendous influence on the way we live our life. Each category can be applied in different situations, to identify different experiences for each individual. People in the USA are beginning to question whether democracy is worth fighting for as more instances are identified in which human beings find themselves ‘above the law’.
In chapters 4 and 5, we have explored the evolution of civil liberties and civil rights in America. Our ideas of what these concepts mean change over time, as new issues and problems challenge our thinking.
For this assignment, I want you to understand the difference between civil rights and liberties and then look at contemporary areas of CONFLICT between civil rights and civil liberties. We are going to focus in on the 4th Amendment.
First, watch this video before starting your research: http://www.pbs.org/video/crash-course-government-23/
Then, research and consider each of the following for your paper:
What is the difference between civil right and civil liberties?
How have the courts ruled on them throughout history?
Does the Terry Stop violate a person’s rights? Explain. Do we have any inherent (Constitutional) privacy rights that would protect us from these type of issues? How has the Supreme Court decided on the following, with regards to our rights?
Read the article in the attached link regarding Stop and Frisk https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/terry_stop_stop_and_frisk

GPS Surveillance on a suspect’s vehicle without their knowledge. Is a search warrant required? Explain.
Using drug-sniffing dogs in the front yard around someone’s home. Is a search warrant required? Explain.
DUI checkpoints. Is a search warrant required? Explain.
Does profiling take place? Based on your research, how do you think profiling may impact law enforcement decisions? Are there any potentialities of violating our civil liberties or civil rights with regards to this profiling? What has the Supreme Court decided in cases that have been brought before them on this issue?
What are your final thoughts with regards to civil rights and civil liberties? Do you feel they are in-tact or starting to dismantle? Explain.
This assignment must follow MLA guidelines, be typed in Times New Roman, 12 pt. font, and be a minimum of 1000 words with a works cited page. The works cited are not included in the minimum word count. Any videos/ articles given in the assignment prompt MUST be used within your paper and cited in your works cited. You must also use additional sources, as indicated in the prompt. For more information on these topics, view the 4th Amendment folder in the current news and controversies folder, under Student Resources.

Phase 1 IP Design Impacts The Organization-How different organizational designs can impact employee behavior in a positive and productive manner

Management has heard rumors that a competitor’s redesign has made it more profitable but has also lead to morale problems. The executive team of Killer App Software has asked you to write a white paper that will inform them of the following:
How different organizational designs can impact employee behavior in a positive and productive manner
Why new organizational designs are constantly emerging as the world changes
How some of the newer organizational designs might improve the organization
The white paper should be appropriate for upper management. You should use at least 3 sources from the literature on organizational design and include both theoretical and practitioner-oriented sources.
Theoretical articles come from sources such as the Academy of Management. Trade associations and journals such as the Harvard Business Reviewoften publish practitioner articles. The paper should be clear and to the point. Make sure there are no spelling or grammatical errors. Use the APA reference guide for writing the white paper.

APPLICATION1 Incentives to Buy Hybrid Vehicles

APPLYING THE CONCEPTS #1: How do people respond to incentives?

Consider the incentives to buy a hybrid vehicle, which is more fuel efficient but more expensive than a gas-powered vehicle. Between 2000 and 2007, the number of hybrid vehicles increased from fewer than 10,000 vehicles to more than 340,000 vehicles. Over this period, the price of gasoline increased significantly, and the higher price of gasoline was responsible for roughly one-third of the hybrid vehicles purchased in 2007. An additional factor in hybrid purchases was a federal subsidy of up to $3,400 per hybrid vehicle. The subsidy was responsible for roughly one-fifth of the hybrid vehicles purchased in 2007. The increase in the number of hybrid vehicles decreased the emission of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide (CO2).

How efficient is the hybrid subsidy in reducing CO2? On average, the cost of abating one ton of CO2 through the hybrid subsidy is $177. There are less costly ways to reduce CO2emissions, including building insulation, energy-efficient lighting, reforestation, and switching to electric power systems that use fuels that generate less CO2. For example, a switch from coal to natural gas in power plants reduces CO2 emissions at less than one-third the cost associated with the hybrid subsidy.

.

APPLICATION1 Don’t Forget the Costs of Time and Invested Funds

APPLYING THE CONCEPTS #1: What is the opportunity cost of running a business?

Suppose you run a lawn-cutting business and use solar-powered equipment (mower, edger, blower, truck) that you could sell tomorrow for $5,000. Instead of cutting lawns, you could work as a janitor for $300 per week. You have a savings account that pays a weekly interest rate of 0.20 percent (or $0.002 per dollar). What is your weekly cost of cutting lawns?

We can use the principle of opportunity cost to compute the cost of the lawn business. The opportunity cost of the $5,000 you have invested in the business is the $10 weekly interest you could have earned by selling the equipment and investing the $5,000 in your savings account. Adding in the opportunity cost of cutting lawns instead of earning $300 as a janitor, the weekly cost is $310. Related to  Exercise 1.7 .

PPLICATION2 Law of Supply and Woolympics

APPLYING THE CONCEPTS #2: What is the law of supply?

In the 1990s, the world price of wool decreased by about 30 percent, and prices have remained relatively low since then. Based on the law of supply, we would expect the quantity of wool supplied from New Zealand and other exporters to decrease, and that’s what happened. Land formerly used to grow grass for wool-producing sheep has been converted into other uses, including dairy products, forestry, and the domestication of deer.
There have been several attempts to revive the wool industry by boosting the demand for wool and thus increasing its price. The United Nations General Assembly declared 2009 as the International Year of Natural Fibres, with the objective “to raise awareness and stimulate demand for natural fibres.” In 2012, the Federated Farmers of New Zealand proposed that sheep shearing be added to the Commonwealth Games and Olympics as a demonstration sport. The favorites for Olympic titles are the current world record holders Ivan Scott (744 sheep in 24 hours) and Kerry-Jo Te Huia (507 sheep in 24 hours). Of course, it’s not obvious that Olympic shearing would increase the demand for wool, and then there is the problem of what to do with all the sheared wool. Speed knitting? Related to Exercises 2.6  and  2.10 .

APPLICATION4 Chinese Demand and Pecan Prices

APPLYING THE CONCEPTS #4: How does a change in demand affect the equilibrium price

Between 2006 and 2009, Chinese imports of U.S. pecans increased from 9 million pounds per year to 88 million pounds. The increase in demand from China is roughly 30 percent of the total annual crop. The increase in demand was caused in part by widespread reports in the Chinese media that pecans promote brain and cardiovascular health. As a result of the increase in demand, the equilibrium price of pecans increased by about 50 percent, increasing the price of pecan pie, a holiday favorite. Related to  Exercises 4.6  and  4.10 .

Civil Disobedience and Non-violence: What is your opinion of the content and the topic? For a researched argument, you would support your opinion by using supporting information from the article.

This discussion forum explores a controversial topic: Civil Disobedience. Remember that any argument asks (or perhaps challenges) us to change something about our perspective on a topic or issue. If we are asking our readers to change their perspectives, we need to be persuasive and civil. Likewise, when we are challenged by others with a different opinion, we need to keep an open mind and keep our responses persuasive and civil.
