Writing Project 2 Purpose: For this essay, you will carefully read a “text” and discuss the messages that text conveys to readers. Course Learning Objectives: Rhetorical knowledge, development and critical thinking, organization, conventions of style and usage, documentation of sources. Form / Design: This essay should be double-spaced, in twelve point font, and at least 1,250 words. It should follow APA or MLA format. If you wish to use another documentation style, ask me for permission. Audience: Your audience for this project should be others who have read and understood the same work that you are reading. Your tone should be academic, so avoid contractions and overly colloquial language. Process Work: You will need to submit an early draft for review and a final draft for a grade. I assume you are completing additional process work to support your writing including taking notes on your sources, brainstorming, outlining, etc. Please save ALL of your process work, from start to finish. You will need it for your portfolio. Specifics: For this assignment, you will choose a text that represents, discusses, comments on, and / or provides inspiration regarding some aspect of who you are, once were, or want to be. You will read it closely and carefully, paying careful attention to what the text conveys both explicitly and implicitly. You will unpack implications. You will discuss what the text “means” as well as how it creates meaning. Ultimately, you will analyze the text and construct an arguable thesis related to the text. You will explain and defend your position.
