There are even overwhelming amounts of commercials and advertisements for fitness equipment, diet programs, gym memberships; to which target those folks who may have gained a few extra pounds over the holidays, or who perhaps want to start the year off healthier. Strength Training- Some of you may already incorporate a regular strength training exercise program and even make it part of your everyday routine. Programs can involve any combination of free weights, bands, machines, or body weight activities. They can be performed at a light weight/high rep or heavy weight/low rep volumes, simple or compound exercises, with a partner or by yourself. An increasing trend in strength training is the idea behind “Functional Training” (i.e. Bootcamp) and “High-Intensity Training” or HIT (i.e. CrossFit). Both these training activities find ways of including exercises in your workout routines that will compliment your everyday activities. It is similar to sport specific training for athletes but focuses more on the movements that regular people do in their daily lives.
