The  purpose  of  this  project  is  to  get  students  to  look  deeper  into  the  implications  of   their  personal  food  choices  by  evaluating  a  dinner  that  they  consume  (it  could  be  a   lunch  or  a  breakfast,  but  dinners  tend  to  have  more  components  which  is  why  I  have   chosen  to  suggest  that  you  analyze  a  dinner).      What  we  are  asking  you  to  do  is  to  -­‐  in   as  much  (real)  detail  as  you  can  manage  –  analyze  the  components  of  the  meal  and   to  ask  questions  about  where  the  food  items  came  from,  where  they  may  have  been   processed,  and  how  they  may  have  gotten  to  wherever  it  was  that  it  was  purchased.       You  can  make  this  as  complicated  or  as  simple  as  you  want,  but  the  grading  will  be   done  on  the  following,  and  you  must  use  up  at  least  2  pages  (double  spaced,  times   new  roman  font,  12  point  size  font;  or  1000  words  if  you  use  charts  and  bullet   points):

Research Paper – Final Submission Instructions

By the end of Module/Week 7, you must submit the final version of your research paper. The paper must thoroughly address your chosen social problem, investigate possible solutions for the problem, incorporate five peer-reviewed resources and journal articles, and have a properly formatted reference page.

Final Research Papers will be between 6 to 8 pages in length. It is important to convey your subject and topic content concisely for your final assignment. Longer assignments have a tendency to veer off subject. It is important to clearly write about your topic. (An example of a research paper outline is included below which might be of interest to you).

Remember that you must discuss the roles that the church, the family, and the community should play in the solutions to the problem. Additionally, be sure to incorporate biblical support for the positions and opinions that you express.

Review the grading rubric to improve the quality of your paper. Your paper will be submitted through SafeAssign, a tool used to detect plagiarism.

Title Page

The title page for a research paper can be reviewed through the Writing Center and if you have an APA Manual 6th ed. p. 41 includes an example.

Abstract

Double-spaced, flush left margin. An abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of the article. An abstract reports rather than evaluates. Be brief, and make each sentence informative, especially the lead sentence. An abstract will be viewed alone on the page. An abstract will not include citations per APA guidelines.

Introduction

The body of a manuscript opens with an introduction that presents the specific problem being studied, and describes the research strategy. Although not mandatory, APA citations can be included in an introduction.

Headings will enhance academic writing

Headings provide sound organizational structure to clear, precise information and communication you wish to convey to your reader. Headings throughout your paper will enhance academic writing and can assist the reader to anticipate key points and track the development of your argument.

Three to four pages of topic content using headings should present a concise research assignment demonstrating your understanding of the content. Remember, single sentence paragraphs are too abrupt, and paragraphs which are too long are likely to lose the reader’s attention.

Conclusion

Be sure to tie your research paper together with a strong concluding paragraph. A strong conclusion will tell the reader briefly what has been researched and discussed.

The traditional retail model has focused on finding high-margin, high-volume products or services because limited space means reduced space inventory. For example, organizations such as Walmart select the biggest hits from the broadest genres, called the “short head.” The short head means Walmart will only carry a select mix of country, pop, and rock that is calculated to provide the greatest cost/benefit. The business model of Amazon is different. Amazon provides the short head but also provides the “long tail” of more than 100,000 different audio selections. The competition for customers between the Walmart and Amazon marketplace is profoundly changing the face of retail business today.
Using your company or a real-world example from your research, respond to the following:

  • Describe how technology is changing the face of businesses today.

Using a strong argumentative structure (point, counterpoint, rebuttal, synthesis, conclusion), please develop a seven paragraph essay presenting your argument on the need for urban farming. How does urban farming help the community and the people? Is urban farming beneficial solely because of its chemical free fruits and vegetables, or is there something more to it? In what ways have Urban Farmers struggled to plant crops and make a living out of it? Is this type of business sustainable? Is Urban Farming a better solution than purchasing food from a grocery store or restaurant? Can a person survive solely off personal indoor or backyard crops? Should more people become urban farmers, and if so why may it be a good thing? What about urban farming do you support or with which you disagree?
Explain your position understanding the reader may have a different concept and position on the topic. Examine the discussion surrounding the points you want to make, focusing on the structure of argument (listed above). To offer synthesis, look at the bigger picture; please consider the economics. Analyze the impact on the American consumer and the urban farmer,considering how access to affordable food grown locally would change his or her quality of life.
