Wicked Urban Problems in the News

Completing the Essay
Search the news for articles addressing urban issues that fit the four criteria for “wicked” problems discussed
in class. Your task for this assignment is to identify a real-life example that illustrates the political, and often
controversial, nature of the planning process. The example you find can be local or in another city, can relate
to any of the functional areas of planning (e.g. transportation, housing, economic development,
environmental planning, etc.), and may be project-specific or focused on larger comprehensive planning
activities. Pick a case study (NOT the South Mountain Freeway discussed in class) for which you can find
adequate details and information about the urban problem being addressed. You must find a minimum of
three sources of information about your case study. All sources must be properly cited and referenced.
Write an essay that clearly addresses the following for the wicked problem you identified:
–Explain the background of the urban planning problem being addressed
–Discuss why the problem is a “wicked” one:
–Why is the problem itself difficult to define?
–Why are the causes of the problem uncertain?
–Why is there no obvious solution?
–How is the problem linked to other problems?
–Discuss the public sector and private sector stakeholders involved, and how conflicting values contribute to
the “wicked” nature of the problem

Today politicians can no longer accept gifts for personal gain. However, politicians can accept gifts and money toward their campaigns. Can campaign donations to a campaign corrupt an election official in 2018 like the Credit Mobilier Scandal did to Congress

A Research Proposal on the pervasiveness of Anemia in Pregnant Women: A Literature Review

Using your thesis statement and research, present the problem that needs to be addressed with your proposed solution. Note: Your solution, advantages, and challenges, will be in Parts 2 and 3. You are only detailing the problem and making sure the reader thoroughly understands the need to read the next two (2) parts of your paper.
Write a three to four (3-4) page draft in which you:
Provide an appropriate title and an interesting opening paragraph to appeal to your stated audience (appeal with logic, ethics, or emotion).
Include a defensible, relevant thesis statement in the first paragraph. (Revised from instructor feedback on Assignment 1.)
Describe the history and status of the issue and provide an overview of the problem(s) that need to be addressed. You should break the issue down into multiple parts (called “problems” for this assignment). For example, if you were writing about jaywalking in a busy city, some of the problems associated could be (1) the lack of available crosswalks, (2) issues with technology like Walk/Don’t Walk signs and mobile phones, and (3) people’s disregard of established laws due to a sense of self-importance. There are several other problems that could be associated with this issue, but those are some ideas. This section should be one or two (1-2) paragraphs.
Explain the first problem and provide support for your claims. This should be one or two (1-2) paragraphs.
Explain the second problem and provide support for your claims. This should be one or two (1-2) paragraphs.
Explain the third problem and provide support for your claims. This should be one or two (1-2) paragraphs.
Provide a paragraph that summarizes the stated problems and promises a solution. Do not explain the solution in this paragraph!
Develop a coherently structured draft that follows the structure outlined above.
Use effective transitional words, phrases, and sentences throughout the paper.
Support claims with at least three (3) quality, relevant references. Use credible, academic sources available through Strayer University’s Resource Center. You may use additional resources as needed. Note: Wikipedia and similar websites do not qualify as academic resources.
Your assignment must follow these formatting guidelines:
Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
Note: Submit your assignment to the designated plagiarism program so that you can make revisions before submitting your paper to your professor.

A Research Proposal on the pervasiveness of Anemia in Pregnant Women: A Literature Review
The first reason for the topic is to identify and know the pervasiveness of anemia with expectant women
The second reason to know the relationship between diet and the etiology as well as the propagation of the condition. This is important so as to know the role of diet in the treatment and prevention of the condition.
The definition of anemia according to World Health Organization (WHO) as a condition in which the level of hemoglobin below 11 g/Dl, a person who has this condition is said to be anemic. The main section of the proposal includes the introduction which defines the main terms that will be used throughout the research paper. The second part is the statement of the problem that will describe the impact of anemia and the reason why this particular research should be done. The next is justification and then methodology which will explain the methods used to attain the results which are another main part of the research followed by the discussion and the conclusion which is the final part of the research project.
The question that should be asked by the audience in this research project is if the prevalence anemia is influence by dint of the victim and the second is whether diet can be used to treat the condition.
The methodology that will be used will be the study and analysis of various literature that describes the condition of anemia and its prevalence.
