Research in organizations

Most problems companies face are due to a lack of information; with complete and accurate information, the problems could be  solved.  Explore  the  topic  of  how  research  is  conducted  in  organizations  to  address problems or issues. Then, using the Amazon.com as your subject respond to the following questions/topics:
1. Briefly describe Amazon.com. Identify potential problems or issues (current or future) that your Amazon.com might address with a research study.
2. What indicators are prevalent demonstrating that Amazon.com is effectively (or ineffectively) using research studies within the organization?
3. How might the company use secondary research? How might they use primary research?
4. What might this company do in the future to expand its research? Include your rationale.
Your APA-formatted response must be a minimum of three pages in length (not including the title page and the reference page) and must include an introduction, a thesis statement (concise summary of the main point of the paper), and a clear
discussion of the questions/topics above. Response must include a minimum of two
credible references. All sources used must be referenced; paraphrased and quoted material must have accompanying citations.

Confronting Without Offending: Positive and Practical Steps to Resolving Conflict

Please write a 4MAT Book Review of the following book:  Pegues, Deborah S. Confronting Without Offending: Positive and Practical Steps to Resolving Conflict. Eugene: Harvest House Publishers, 2009. ISBN: 9780736921497.
1.    ABSTRACT. Summarize what you have read, boiling the book down into 400–600 words (no more than 2 pages). Prove you comprehend the readings by writing a no-nonsense summary. The abstract is not a commentary or listing of topics but rather an objective summary from the reader’s viewpoint. Abstract equals “boiled down.” This section should include a minimum of 2 footnotes* to the text being reviewed. (*in text citations if you are using APA style)
2.    CONCRETE RESPONSE. Get vulnerable! In no less than 250 words and no more than 1 page, relate a personal life experience that this book triggered in your memory. Relate your story in first person, describing action, and quoting exact words you remember hearing or saying. In the teaching style of Jesus, this is a do-it-yourself parable, case study, confession. You will remember almost nothing you have read unless you make this critical, personal connection. What video memory began to roll? This is your chance to tell your story and make new ideas your own.
3.    REFLECTION. This is the critical thinking part of the review (not critical in the sense of negative, but in the sense of questioning). In no less than 250 words and no more than 1 page, describe what questions pop up for you in response to what you have read. Keep a rough-note sheet at hand as you read. Outsmart the author by asking better questions than he/she raised in the book. Tell how the author could have made the book better or more appealing to those in your field of service. One way to begin this section is by stating what bothered you most about the book. This is not a place to provide an endorsement or affirmation of the book.
4.    ACTION. So what are you going to do about it? In 400–600 words (no less than 1 page and no more than 2 pages) provide 2 actions that describe what changes you are going to make in your life, ministry, and/or work as a result of your reading. Actions should be measurable and reveal a commitment to specific time, specific people, and identified steps. Make sure the actions are implemented between the time the review is submitted and Module/Week 8. Discussion Board activity asks for you to reveal the results of one of your actions.
5.    Please provide a Turabian style* title page, pagination, footnotes & Bibliography

Teen pregnancy using the social cognitive theory

An annotated bibliography is a list of citations of books, articles, and other empirical documents that you will use to construct your final paper.
Your annotated bibliography should include a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources (citations) you wish to use in your final paper.
Each source (citation) is followed by a brief (usually about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the source (citation).
Instructions:
The key to this assignment is to start early and to clearly identify and narrow down a problem you wish to address and to find supporting empirical documentation for you to use in your final paper.
Your annotated bibliography should have no fewer than six scholarly sources.
ONE resource must be from the textbook (Students cannot use the textbook as a resource to describe their theory. Please find another resource)
ONE social work resource should come from beyond the textbook.
TWO resources should fully discuss the theory you are using to address the problem you have selected.
TWO resources should talk about the effectiveness or about outcome measures of using the theory you have selected with the population you have identified).
Please indicate which one of the six scholarly sources in your annotated bibliography you are addressing.
Your annotated bibliography can be no shorter than 2 pages, no longer than 8 pages in length (excluding title page), must be doubled spaced, and you must use 12 point font.
Each page should be numbered.
The title page should have all of the necessary identifying information (For example, title of your work, student’s name, course name, date of submission, instructor’s name, and etc).
All sources (citations) cited in your annotated bibliography should NOT be older than 10 years old. If you are using older sources please explain why.
Annotated bibliography MUST use all of the EXACT FIVE headings LISTED BELOW so they will be easy to identify. This will allow your instructor to see where one question ends and another begins. This will also make sure that you are given credit for your work. Please do not use an abbreviated version of these eleven headings. FAILURE TO USE THE EXACT FIVE HEADINGS IN YOUR PAPER WILL RESULT IN A 30% DEDUCTION
REQUIRED HEADINGS UNDERNEATH EACH ANNOTATIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY

Introduction
1
1. is the sample biased? Why I or why not?
2. What population is being studied?
For this project you will be using the Blood Alcohol Content Dataset. Here is a
description of the dataset:
How much alcohol can one consume before one’s blood alcohol content (BAC) is
above the legal limit? An undergraduate statistics project conducted at The Ohio
State University in Columbus, Ohio explored the relationship between BAC and
other variables such as amount of alcohol consumed, weight, gender, and age.
The experiment took place in February of 1986 at a student dormitory. Students who
volunteered for the experiment blew into a breathalyzer to indicate that his or her
initial BAC was zero. The number (between 1 and 9) of 12 ounce beers to be drunk
was assigned to each of the subjects by drawing tickets from a bowl. Thirty minutes
after consuming their final beer, students had their BAC measured by a police
officer of the OSU police department. The officer also administered a road sobriety
test before and after the alcohol consumption. This involved performing four simple
tasks, graded on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being a perfect rating), demonstrating
coordination: balancing on one foot, touching the tip of one’s nose with a forefinger,
placing one’s head back with one’s eyes closed, and walking heel to toe. The police
officer was not aware of how much alcohol each subject had consumed.
The following variables are contained in the dataset:
Gender
Weight = weight of each subject in pounds
Beers = number of 12 ounce beers consumed
BAC = blood alcohol content
1ST SOB = combined score on the four road sobriety tests before alcohol
consumption
2ND SOB = combined score on the four road sobriety tests after alcohol consumption
Some of the variables in this dataset are extraneous to the project. It is up to you to
determine which variables to use. There are some questions below that give you the
freedom to choose any variable from the dataset; be sure to use the variable that
makes the most sense.

3. Display the following descriptive statistics for one of the numerical variables: mean, standard
deviation, variance, trimmed mean, minimum, maximum, range, number of missing
observations, total number of observations, first quartile, median, third quartile, and interquartile
range.
a. How many observations are in the dataset?
4. Display histograms for Weight, BAC, and 2nd SOB.
5. Characterize the shape of each histogram using all of the following that apply: unimodal,
bimodal, multimodal, symmetric, bell shaped, uniform, right skewed, or left skewed.
6. Display a boxplot for Weight, BAC, and 2nd SOB.
7. Are there any outliers in your boxplots? If yes, give the value(s).
8. Display the counts and percents of how many data values fall into each category.
9. Display a bar graph for the categorical variable.
10. Display a scatterplot of BAC AND 2nd SOB.
11. Display the value of the correlation coefficient between BAC AND 2nd SOB.

12. Characterize the linear relationship between the variables as positive or negative; and as weak,
moderate, or strong. Give a reason for your answer.
13. In one display, include a scatterplot of BAC AND 2nd SOB, the graph of the regression line, and
the regression equation.
14. What is the value of the slope of your regression line? Slope =
15. State the specific meaning of the value of the slope of your regression line in the context of your
data.
16. Use the regression equation to make one prediction. That is, for a value of the predictor variable,
calculate the value of the response variable, and enter both values below. Include units of
measure.
17. What is the value of the coefficient of determination, r2, for your data?
18. State the specific meaning of the value of r2 in the context of your data.
19. Is the prediction you made a reasonably good one? Give a reason for your answer.
Value of predictor variable =
Value of response variable =
Show calculation:
r2 =

20. Display the descriptive statistics for one of your numerical variables by each value of your
categorical variable.
21. Display comparative boxplots for one of your numerical variables by each value of your
categorical variable.
22. Use the comparative boxplots to discuss the similarities or differences in the medians, the ranges,
and the interquartile ranges.
23. Display a 98% confidence interval for the mean of BAC.
a. Interpret this result in the context of the data.
b. Find the margin of error for this estimate and state its meaning in the context of the data.
c. Does this margin of error seem larger than desirable? What could you do in a future
observational study to decrease the margin of error for this estimate?
24. Suppose I guess that the average BAC of the students was .08. Display a test of the hypotheses
that the mean of the numerical variable equals the value of the guess given to you versus the
alternative that it does not equal this value.
5
a. At the 5% significance level, what is your decision and why?
b. Write a standard interpretation in the context of the data.
25. Display a hypothesis test for a difference between the means of the BAC variable for the two
subpopulations (male/female). You may use a one-tailed test if you explain why you would
anticipate the difference to be in a certain direction. Otherwise, use a two-tailed test.
a. At the 10% significance level, what is your decision and why?
b. Write a standard interpretation in the context of the data.

concept, theory, or insight about globalization

In your response paper, identify an important concept, theory, or insight about globalization that you learned in Steger Chap. 1 and discuss it in relation to the assigned readings by Brownell “Beijing Olympics” and Taylor “North Korean Mass Games.” (maximum 400 words; approximately three paragraphs)
Your response paper prepares you for Wed. Recitation Section, where you will have a chance to talk about your ideas with your classmates.
*The response paper is worth 10 pts. and will be graded based on the following rubric:
1.Response shows good understanding of at least one concept, theory, or insight from Steger Chap. 1 (3 pts.)
2.The concept, theory, or insight is applied appropriately to both assigned readings on East Asia (3 pts.)
3.Discussion is accurate and supported with relevant examples (4 pts.)

Harriet Jacobs’ Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl or Kate Chopin’s The Awakening

Paper instructions

Write an essay (~1000 words) in which you provide a close reading and interpretation of a short passage (one paragraph or so) from Harriet Jacobs’ Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl or Kate Chopin’s The Awakening.  You should provide adequate contextualization (i.e. at what point in the narrative does your passage appear?) in order to set up your discussion, and your thesis should make an argument about the significance of the passage in terms of the book as a whole.  You may quote other short passages from the book in order to back up your claims about your major passage.  While you may select any passage from the text, keep in mind that a strong paper should do more than reiterate class discussion; therefore, I’d highly encourage you to choose a passage we have not discussed in class.  Basically, the goal of this assignment is to demonstrate that you can do a careful, patient reading of a key section of a text; this task is the building block for any larger paper.

Your paper will be evaluated primarily according to the following criteria:

-Does the paper provide a thesis that sets up the work of the paper and explains the significance of the analysis?

-Is the thesis clear, arguable, specific, and original?

-Is the interpretation grounded in thorough close readings of individual passages?

-Does the paper move beyond summary and description to analysis and interpretation?

-Does the paper provide sufficient textual evidence to support its position?

-Does the paper integrate quoted and paraphrased material smoothly and effectively?
-Is the paper logically organized, with strong topic sentences and transitions between ideas?

-Is the paper stylistically smooth and easy to read, generally free of grammatical or mechanical errors?

-Does the paper provide a title that sets up the argument?

Papers should be typed, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins on all sides.  Use a standard serif 12-pt font (such as Times New Roman).  Consult the MLA Style Guide, available online or in the library, for any questions about grammar and style. Papers should be stapled, with your name and page number on each page.  No plastic cover sheets, please.

Stick to the text; do not consult or cite any outside sources for this paper.  Evidence of doing so will be considered a violation of academic integrity and will result in a failing grade.  If you work with a peer or writing tutor, please ensure that both the phrasing and ideas are legitimately yours.
