INTRODUCTION
We have learned about the amazing long-term databases that ornithologists have
collected over the past 40+ years that generate scientifically-based estimates of
population trends for dozens of species of North American birds.
We have discussed the limitations of the survey/monitoring methods, and how to use
these data to test hypotheses for the cause of population declines.
For this assignment, you will work in groups of 1-3 (groups of 4 are not permitted)
students to test a hypothesis for bird declines by:
(1) stating one or more predictions of a hypothesis that are suitable for testing using
the database(s).
(2) collect the online data that are needed to test your predictions
(3) show your results using several key graphs/tables and use statistics to test for
significant patterns
(4) interpret your findings and demonstrate understanding of the limitations of your
study, statistical tests, and the survey/monitoring methods

Students are allowed to work in groups of up to 3 students on the Bird Decline
assignment; co-authorship is common in scientific publications. Co-authors on papers
receive an identical grade. It is up to students working in groups to share the workload,
meet internal deadlines, and check the quality of each other’s work. Students are
welcome to work alone if they wish.
Your paper should be written in scientific paper format and include an abstract and
reference section (5-10 references). Aim for 8-10 pages double spaced, including tables/
figures.
You will be evaluated on these criteria:
Content:
• Hypothesis & predictions are high quality and clearly stated
• Results are clearly presented and do a good job of testing the predictions
• Stats are appropriate for the data and prediction
• Interpretation/conclusions are supported by the results
• Clear statement of whether Hypothesis is supported or rejected

Developmental Assignment #2: Identification of Most Significant Health Issue for Selected Cultural Group
This assignment is a continuation of the the first essay which I have attached.
The second developmental assignment (due end of Week 6, Sunday, February 18th) will require you to select the most significant health issue for your selected cultural group for the Cultural Health Promotion Project. The selected health issue should be one of the two issues identified in your first developmental assignment (due in Week 3). For this assignment, you will need to write a paper (no more than 2 pages in length, excluding cover page and references) that discusses the following:
Identification of the selected health issue and supported justification for its selection as the focus for your project (why does it need to be addressed most urgently? What makes it more important or critical than the other issue identified?).
Discussion of two underlying issues that are the most important contributors to the health issue. You will need to describe each underlying issue and briefly discuss how it contributes to the overall health issue you are focusing on for the project.

We discussed several health behavior change models and steps to making a health behavior change. You chose a personal health behavior to change, completed a Behavior Change Contract, and, ideally, implemented the change. Short Paper 2 will be a reflection on the behavior you chose to change over the semester, and should incorporate personal experiences with information presented in the textbook and lectures.

Additional instructions/information:
- Your paper will be 2.5 to 3 double-spaced pages long (12-point Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins). We will not read beyond the third page when grading your paper.
- The paper must be typed. It must be clear and concise. Please check your paper for grammatical and spelling accuracy.
- A hard copy of the paper is due no later than April 17, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Papers submitted after 2:00 pm (i.e., at 2:00 and 1 second) on the due date will be deducted by 10% for each weekday they are late. Electronic versions of the paper will NOT be accepted. Bring a hard copy to class.
- You do not need a cover page or Abstract. Please include your first and last name and eid on every page. Please do not include lengthy headers; the majority of the 3 pages should be devoted to content.

Health informatics professionals participate in teams working toward implementing new technologies in their healthcare organization. There is a need in the body of knowledge of health informatics and information management for research studies to support the effectiveness of utilizing health information technology (HIT), particularly as it impacts clinical areas. Assessing the impact of HIT on patient care, clinical staff behaviors, work flow, other processes within organizations, and outcomes related to all of these elements require objective evidence that results from research.
