Individual Project

Part 1

Choose a specific health care organization that has been in existence since the 1980s (e.g., a for-profit hospital by name; nonprofit hospital by name; governmental clinic; military or VA health care facility by name; private health care clinic by name; ambulatory surgery center by name; diagnostic imaging center by name; nursing home by name; assisted living facility by name). Describe the organization and the basic health care services it provides.

Part 2

Analyze how this organization has changed since the 1980s as a result of economic and political forces (i.e., ethical and legal). You should identify a minimum of 3 significant changes from the 1980s to today that should include considerations for technology, personnel and professionals involved, patient demographics, supply and demand imbalance, and so on.

Part 3

In summary, evaluate how these changes have impacted the organization’s efficacy (negatively and positively) from the administrator’s viewpoint. Then, proffer the influence of these changes on the U.S. health system overall (negative and positive).
Your paper should be 3 to 4 pages excluding the cover page, abstract page, and reference page (common assessment). Be sure to support your work with at least 3 academic or professional peer-reviewed sources published within the past 5 years.

Individual Project

Assess financial data sources and make recommendations for data reporting in support of decision making.
Compose a plan to evaluate recent changes in federal, state and local policies and how they impact financial management and decision to be made as a result of the policies.
Assignment:
You are the chief financial officer (CFO) at a community hospital. One of the comments that has come back from patient surveys is the need for a commercial 24-hour pharmacy within the hospital. In this way, patients or their families will be able to fill prescriptions and begin taking ordered medication right away instead of waiting until the following day. The chief executive officer (CEO) wants you to create a proposal for the first 3 months of operation utilizing time value of money tools for the development of this new revenue-generating department. The following points must be covered in your proposal:

  • Include and discuss the need for working capital to include 2 months of startup drug inventory, vendor financing arrangements, personnel costs including salaries and benefits, renovations, disposable supplies, and cost of equipment
  • Provide 2 viable options to measure the rate of return to optimize financial performance of the department based on time value principles with rationale and justification.
  • Include a profitability analysis for 3 years.
  • Include a schedule of assumptions for your proposal. What questions might the board ask regarding feasibility of this proposal?
  • How might current changes in federal, state, and local policies influence decisions to be made?

Individual Project

Some of the ramifications of social change in the United States include an influx of women into the workplace, same-sex marriage, an increased number of interracial marriages, online dating, and an increase in the number of children born outside of wedlock. What about the extensive use of body ink today? In the 1950s and 1960s, people sporting tattoos on their arms (much less their entire bodies) were stereotyped as trashy or up to no good. Today, acceptance is widespread, and it is common to see body art.
The list below briefly describes some recent social changes. Choose 1 that you may have difficulty accepting, and explain why. Note: If there is a different social change that you want to discuss, please consult your instructor.

  • Interracial marriage
  • Women in the military
  • Same-sex marriage
  • Adoption of children by same-sex couples
  • Females as the family breadwinners
  • Paternity leave for fathers
  • Disintegration of the traditional family

Now, take an opposing viewpoint to the change you discussed, and prepare an argument as if you supported it. For example, if you oppose same-sex marriage, what might someone who supports it say? Does this perspective help you understand why someone would be in favor of same-sex marriage? Note: You must support your argument by including at least 2 academic resources.
Social change can be slow, but it is inevitable. Choose 1 facet of modern society with which you still have not adjusted, and respond to the following questions:

  • How would you deal with someone who has embraced that lifestyle if you were to encounter him or her at your next job?
  • How do you think you might approach work and life differently? Be honest and specific.
