Even though Freud’s theory is better known, Erikson’s theory remains a leading and very much applied model in personality and developmental psychology today.

Erikson and Freud are two of the few theorists who have developed a lifespan approach to development. Freud’s approach to development was psychosexual while Erikson’s was psychosocial. Even though Freud’s theory is better known, Erikson’s theory remains a leading and very much applied model in personality and developmental psychology today.
When considering these two stage-oriented theories, you can directly compare the majority of their stages. These are matched in the following table:
(see doc for table)
When considering Erikson’s eight stages of development, the way a person moves through each stage directly affects their success in the next stage. Their personality is being built and shaped with each stage. At each stage, there is a turning point, called a crisis by Erikson, which a person must confront.
In this assignment, you will observe or interview two different people, each at a different stage of development. For a third observation, take a look at yourself and the stage that you are in (this stage must be different from your other two observations).

  • Record your three observations in a template. Include the following information:
    • Name
    • Age
    • Gender
    • Current developmental stage
    • Status within the stage (i.e., identity achievement or role confusion)
    • Events that have lead to this status

Download a Development Template to record your observations.

  • Summarize what you have learned about psychosocial development through these observations/interviews.
  • Summarize the trends you see in your observations/interviews regarding psychosocial development.
  • How does movement through Erikson’s stages influence personality development? Again, be specific.
  • How do Erikson’s stages of development compare to Freud’s stages? How are they similar? How are they different?
  • Between these two theories, which one do you feel best explains your own personality development? Justify your answers with specific examples.

Write a 3–4-page paper in Word format. Insert your chart at the end of your paper. Apply APA

Realistically, do you think it is possible to be congruent and to extend empathy and unconditional positive regard to these clients in a psychotherapeutic context? Why or why not?

Similar to Freud, Carl Rogers developed his theory from his extensive work with his patients. However, unlike Freud, he believed that people are typically healthy; being mentally healthy is the normal state. Although there are unhealthy people, they are not the norm or what one has to accept and live with throughout one’s life. Furthermore, Rogers believed that each person has one primary motivation—to realize his/her full potential or to be self-actualized. Finally, he posited that neurosis stems from incongruence between one’s real self and one’s ideal self. He applied this to his theory of counseling in the development of three therapeutic criteria that he felt were both necessary and sufficient to help the patient. These three qualities are now the foundation for modern person-centered therapy.
The three qualities that form the foundation of Rogerian therapy are empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. These will be relatively easy to express for people you naturally like but can be difficult to express for people whom you do not like nor agree with.
Imagine that you are a psychologist working with a population of individuals that tend to be more difficult to work with, such as sex offenders, elderly patients with dementia, or mentally challenged children. Use the Internet, Argosy University library resources, and your textbook to research the concepts of Rogerian therapy and respond to the following questions:

Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Describe how you went about creating the test, and how you decided on the types of test items to include. Provide an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the test created based on question content and type. In addition, include a basic guideline that could be provided to someone interested in creating a psychological test, including the basic steps and considerations in this process

Determine an attribute, skill, trait, or attitude you are interested in measuring. Develop a 10 item test measuring various aspects of the chosen topic. Describe how you went about creating the test, and how you decided on the types of test items to include. Provide an assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of the test created based on question content and type. In addition, include a basic guideline that could be provided to someone interested in creating a psychological test, including the basic steps and considerations in this process. The test and analysis should be included in one document in APA format. The analysis and guideline should be at least three pages in length.

Describe the social and cultural conditions that led to Gestalt psychology's disappearance. Then analyze the basic assumptions of psychoanalysis and Behaviorism for any traces of Gestalt psychology. What elements of Gestalt psychology do you recognize as existing in the basic premises of psychoanalysis and Behaviorism

Discussion #1.Describe the social and cultural conditions that led to Gestalt psychology’s disappearance. Then analyze the basic assumptions of psychoanalysis and Behaviorism for any traces of Gestalt psychology. What elements of Gestalt psychology do you recognize as existing in the basic premises of psychoanalysis and Behaviorism?
Discussion#2.Describe the social and cultural conditions that led to the rise of cognitive psychology. Argue whether cognitive psychology represents further growth in the field of psychology or the development of a new science
Discussion #3.Design a study you would like to explore in your future or current career that could be analyzed with ANOVA. To help design the study, please answer the following:
· What is the independent variable? What are your levels of the independent variable?
· What is the dependent variable?
· What do you expect to find if you ran the study? Please list this out both in statistical language (feel free to make up some numbers for the results) as well as real-world language.
· What would you expect to find with post hoc analyses? Which groups might be significantly different from which other groups?

· Do the insanity laws specify the presence of cognitive or volitional impairment as a threshold requirement to meet insanity?

The insanity defense is as old as it is controversial. There are times when insanity truly applies and times when it is not easy to determine. In either case, the documentation of services provided to these clients is typically heavily scrutinized by attorneys since documentation is the primary means used by courts to measure insanity as it meets legal standards. This assignment will allow you to examine the legal standards for insanity in your jurisdiction in addition to
the requirements for the documentation of services provided to these individuals.
Tasks:
Search the state of Georgia and regulatory boards, professional associations, state psychology boards, and state psychological associations. Use resources from professional literature to support your response. Professional literature may include relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, and .gov).
Write a 3- to 4-page paper, including the following:
· What are the legal requirements in your jurisdiction regarding the documentation of services provided by a forensic psychology professional? If not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity (NGRI) and guilty-but-mentally-ill (GBMI) evaluations are not recognized by your jurisdiction, review the legal requirements in a jurisdiction where they are the standard.
· What are the specific laws and rules regarding the documentation of psychological services?
· What are the differences between the requirements for clinical work and the requirements for forensic work, if any?
· What standards are used in your jurisdiction for an insanity plea?
· Do the insanity standards identify mental disease or defect with any exclusions, such as substance use? Explain.
· How do the standards in your jurisdiction contrast with the standards presented in textbooks?
· Do the insanity laws specify the presence of cognitive or volitional impairment as a threshold requirement to meet insanity? Provide brief examples.

Grading Criteria:

Identified and explained the legal   requirements in your jurisdiction regarding the documentation of services   provided by a forensic psychology professional.

Identified and described the   specific laws and rules in your jurisdiction regarding the insanity standard.

Differentiated between the   requirements for clinical work and the requirements for forensic work.

Provided examples and references   and followed APA guidelines for writing and citing in-text references.

Wrote in a clear, concise, and   organized manner; demonstrated ethical scholarship in accurate representation   and attribution of sources; and displayed accurate spelling, grammar, and   punctuation.

The Role of the Forensic Psychology Professional in Capital Punishment Sentencing

The Role of the Forensic Psychology Professional in Capital Punishment Sentencing
Mr. Fryer has a long history of psychiatric hospitalizations related to his diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia. His delusions revolve around the belief in uniformed spies who have been sent to execute him. He reports auditory and visual hallucinations when not on his medication. He was arrested for trespassing after he was found sleeping in the delivery shed of a warehouse.
During his stay in jail, he was put on antipsychotic medications, and he was released with time served after spending fifty-four days in the jail. Upon his release, he returned to live on the streets and stopped taking his medications. While sleeping on a park’s bench, he was assaulted by several youths, who hit and kicked him. Although his assailants left him on the ground with no serious injuries, Mr. Fryer was convinced that the juveniles who assaulted him were spies who would return to assassinate him.
He found a seventeen-inch pipe to use as a defensive weapon, and, fearing for his life, he hid in the shadows the remainder of the evening. In the morning, he saw two uniformed youths approaching him. A twelve-year-old boy and his fourteen-year-old brother were on their way to a Boy Scout meeting. Mr. Fryer ran up behind the boys and started swinging the pipe wildly, screaming they would never take him alive. He struck the twelve-year-old boy on the head, causing him severe brain trauma. The fourteen-year-old boy was able to flee but only after receiving a blow on the face. Mr. Fryer returned to the twelve-year-old boy and bludgeoned him to death.
He was still hitting the lifeless body when the police arrived. As soon as the police car pulled up, he dropped the pipe and sat in silence as he was subdued. He was determined by the court to be not competent to stand trial and was committed to a state hospital for restoration of competence. After eight months of pharmacological treatment, he was determined by the court to be competent to stand trial and was subsequently tried and convicted of capital murder.
The following are the mitigating circumstances in this case:
· At the time of the offense, Mr. Fryer was under extreme emotional and mental distress.
· At the time of the offense, Mr. Fryer was substantially unable to appreciate the wrongfulness of his act or conform his actions to the requirements of the law.
The following are the aggravating circumstances in this case:
· The crime was committed in a wanton, atrocious, and cruel manner.
· Mr. Fryer is likely to commit criminal acts in the future.
Tasks:
Respond to the following points in a minimum of 250 words using APA formatting and 2 references:
· You are hired by the defense to assist in the sentencing phase. Analyze the case study and address the following:
1. How should you proceed? Provide reasons to support your answer.
2.  What roles do the mitigating and aggravating circumstances play in capital sentencing?
3. What issues will you address as a forensic psychology professional?
4. How will you support your opinion in front of the court? Provide examples and references.
5. How would you prepare for direct examinations and cross-examinations?

Part One:
1. Problem Set 1: The Pea rson correlation coefficient File: Open “Module 5 Exercise File 1 ” found in Blackboard Course C ontent (Course Guides and Assignment Instructions—Assignment Instructions—SPSS Homework—SPSS Homework 5 Files). Research Scenario: A sports psychologist wants to examine the relationship between hours spen t sleeping and hours spent training per week for long-distance cyclists. He collects data from 23 different athletes , including the average amount of sleep per night for each cyclist and the average number of hours per week spent training . Conduct a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis to determine whether there is a relationship between these two variables. Paste SPSS output (3 pts). Beneath the output, type the answers to the following questions:
a. Is the correlation between average daily sleep and average time spent training positive or negative? How do you know this? (3 pts)
b. Is the correlation between hours of sleep and hours of training significant or not? How do you know this? (3 pts)
2. Create a scatterplot that demonstrates the relationship between amount of sleep and hours of training. (4 pts)
3. Write an APA-style Results section based on your analysis. Use the answers to the above questions to help you. All homework Results sections should follow the example given in the SPSS tutorials. Remember to include a decision about the null hypothesis. (4 pts)
Part Two:
Problem Set 1 : The Pearson correlation coefficient Research Scenario: A researcher wants to study a current theory that those who are more susceptible to hyponosis are more prone to experience changes to their sense of agency (being in control of one’s actions and their outcomes). She recruits a sample of 15 participants and administers the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale:C (SHSS:C, Weitzenhoffer and Hilgard, 1962) and the Sense of Agency Rating Scale (SOARS, Polito et al., 2013). On the SHSS:C, higher scores indicate being more susceptible to hypnotism (a person is easier to hypnotize). On the SOARS measure, higher scores indicate changes to a person’s sense of agency, or control. Conduct a Pearson correlation coefficient analysis to determine whether there is a relationship between these two variables.
