Discussion Question – User Interface: Identify an app (not a website) that you are familiar with. Do not repeat an example from the textbook or one that has been posted by another student

Discussion Question (do parts 1 & 2 to fully complete)
Part 1:

User Interface Design
Please respond to the following in not more than 200 words:

Teacher’s notes “Good user experience has become essential to software applications. You probably recognize good and poor user interfaces without thinking about it; in this discussion I want you to go beyond intuition. Please pick a desktop or mobile app and analyze how it embodies two of the user design rules that Chapter 8 explains.”
Part 2:
Then, in a separate post, follow up on one of your fellow students in substantive posts of up to 150 words that further the discussion. For example, you may support or politely challenge a post with your own insights or experience, make a suggestion, or ask probing follow-up questions.
Support your positions with explanations and/or sources, as appropriate, but do not quote. (choose 1)
a.
Of the many rules that govern the interface design. I particularly like the enable frequent users to use shortcuts. This is the primary purpose of an app an easy way to access a website or accessible downloads. Much like the Bitcoin App which allows the user easy access to managing their cryptocurrency status quicker and more frequently. The second focus is the offer of simple error handling. With an app you have far less chances of intercepting a website with slow processing  and IP base malfunctions. I look forward to the next lesson as this was a very interesting topic t hand.

AUGUST
b.
The app I am familiar with is Livongo Coach.  After my husband checks his blood sugar with the hand-held,then the numbers are uploaded to the Livongo application. A coach responds by text within minutes with suggestions for the next three meals. If we have a question, we click on the app and ask.  This follows the User Interface Design Rule 1: Create an Interface That Is Easy to Learn and Use since all we have to do is stick and submit. Rule 3: Provide Users with Help and Feedback, sends feedback quickly and has a just ask help option.
c. We live in an age where there is an app for just about everything. Just to be a bit different from the main stream apps that most people are familiar with I am choosing the mobile app Glow which is a data-driven ovulation calculator & fertility tracker. This is a free app that is supposed to help women track their general cycle to pinpoint the ovulation window or in other words, the prime time to make a baby. My wife particularly likes this app among other apps available because it is easy to use and also allows the user to include such details as list of medications, exercising history, mood and more, which are all factors that affect one’s reproductive health. So, creative design that is easy to learn and use and user productivity are some of the good attributes of this app.
d.  The one app that I’m familiar with is the comcast app. I use the app almost everyday for bill payment, technical issues with the wifi, cable tv and phone service, to watch movies on my phone and movies on the tablets for the kids, telephone issues or any other issues that I might have for my cable services. Comcast app follows rule 1: Create an Interface that is easy to learn and use- the comcast xfinity app is very easy to use, it is a clear and simple and all the touch commands always provide a comfortable touch target around actionable elements so they can be tapped without error. Rule 4- Create an Attractive Layout and Design- the interface of the comcast xfinity app displays titles, messages and all instructions in a consistent manner and in the same general locations on all screens and when the user enters data that in correctly, you will not be able to go to the next screen unit the correction are made.

English Source Analysis Paper-Produce a focused analysis of the primary source you have chosen that fits within the scope of our course theme

At this stage, you have already chosen two possible primary sources that fit within the scope of our course theme and written a paragraph summarizing each. Now, using your feedback and The Writer’s Companion (especially Chs. 2 and 4), your task will be to choose one of these sources (the one you feel most interested in or that has the most potential for your research project) and write a focused analysis. This will be the primary source you work with throughout the semester.
Below you will find a list of objectives. As you complete the assignment, be sure to refer to these objectives carefully and to consult our textbook, The Writer’s Companion.
This assignment should be 2-3 pages, double-spaced, typed in 12-point font, and set to 1” margins.

Objectives:

  • Produce a focused analysis of the primary source you have chosen that fits within the scope of our course theme
  • Finish the analysis with a paragraph that includes one or two open-ended research questions that will help guide you toward developing a working thesis and finding secondary source materials (i.e. questions that cannot be answered with “yes” or “no”)
  • Create an analysis that will serve as the basis for your secondary source integration assignment, and will subsequently lead to the first draft of your final paper, which will be discussed during your research conference later in the semester

Points to Keep in Mind:

  • Make sure you understand the meaning of analysis; according to the authors of The Writer’s Companion, “To analyze something is to investigate how and why it is the way it is—to seek to understand the way it is working” (p. 25). Consider it your job to attempt to define and explain what you see in your primary source. Beyond simply describing what you notice, think about why and how the source uses particular details to communicate something to an audience.
  • Remember that this analysis should not be a list. Instead of describing everything about the primary source, focus on the most important aspects of your source and begin to interpret it by ascribing meaning to these details.
  • Start your paper by identifying basic information about the source.
    • What is it?
    • Where did it come from?
    • Who made it?
  • To get started with your analysis, revisit the preliminary work you have done with The Method and other techniques from the analytical toolkit.
  • Consult the Five Analytical Moves to generate ideas (WC, p. 37-54). Brainstorm by breaking the source down into its significant parts and describing those parts in detail, talking about the patterns and connections between them, and, most importantly, making explicit the possible implicit meanings of what you see.
  • When you begin your analysis, remember to be specific; if the source is text-based (e.g., song lyrics, a selected paragraph from an article, etc.), examine the text line-by-line, teasing out the meanings and implications. If the source is image-based (e.g., a print advertisement), examine all the elements that make up the image or object. This will allow you to observe patterns or connections between elements, and to begin working toward a more informed research question.
  • At the close of your analysis, end with one or two analytical “research questions” (questions that arise from observations about the source) that you will use to begin thinking more deeply about your topic and to help you find materials for the upcoming Annotated Bibliography and Secondary Source Integration. We will go over how to develop a research question in class.

critically analyze one of the major criminal enterprises (i.e., types of crimes) that are commonly engaged in by many transnational crime groups today

Bi-Weekly papers are assigned and due in Weeks 2, 4 and 6. Each paper is worth 10% of your grade.   From the readings and individual research you conduct, write and submit a formal, objective academic research paper in which you critically analyze one of the major criminal enterprises (i.e., types of crimes) that are commonly engaged in by many transnational crime groups today. Examples of these enterprises are: drug smuggling and distribution; human slavery and trafficking; sex slave trade, including prostitution; weapons sales and smuggling; cyber-crimes; financial and economic crimes; illegal immigration; extortion; theft rings; identity theft; murder for hire; etc. You are not limited to this list.   The paper must provide a summary of the history of that enterprise, what criminal groups have traditionally engaged in it, any changes in the magnitude and manner in which the enterprise is conducted in recent years or decades, target customers and victims, success or failures of law enforcement, and your perspective on what steps are necessary to combat this crime operation globally and within the United States.   Specifically, the paper should meet the following criteria requirements:  Identify and define the criminal enterprise.   Identify the originating country or countries of this criminal operation.  Describe the historical origins of this crime.   Identify the different transnational crime groups that historically engaged in this enterprise, as well as those that are prolific in it today.  Provide a short literature review of what you have learned about this enterprise.   Provide one or more criminological theories that best describe and explain the nature of this enterprise, and reasons for its existence (for instance desire for illicit drugs or sex by members of the public).    Provide a short summary of the global trends and impacts of this crime from a global threat perspective, including where relevant:    Society  Politics  Economy  Security   Formulate approaches and collaboration techniques to ameliorate the enterprise and activities associated with it.   The paper should be four (4) to six (6) pages, double spaced, and approximately 2,000 to 3,000 words. This does not include title page, table of contents and source references (all of which are required). The paper must be APA compliant, including source references. Initial Case Conceptualization-discuss the theoretical approach you selected for working with a specific client during your fieldwork experience, and how you used this perspective as you collected information about the client and developed counseling goals

Initial Case Conceptualization

In this assignment, you will discuss the theoretical approach you selected for working with a specific client during your fieldwork experience, and how you used this perspective as you collected information about the client and developed counseling goals.

As you begin your work on this assignment, refer to what you have learned about counseling theories from:

· The material that you covered in previous courses you’ve taken during your program.

· Experiences during the Master’s Residencies.

· The discussions you have had with your site supervisor and fieldwork course instructor during practicum and Internship 1.

Complete this assignment by addressing the following topics in four-part format.

Part 1: Client Information

Select a client with whom you have worked in individual counseling sessions over several weeks during your fieldwork experience. As you present information about the client in this assignment, be sure to use a pseudonym and omit or change all identifying material.

Present a brief description (no more than two pages) of the client, including the following:

· Demographic information (such as age, gender, race/ethnicity/country of origin, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability, and social-economic status).

· Current situation (including living situation, support systems, work and employment, and health).

· The client’s presenting issues or concerns.

· Relevant history. Include a brief description of key events from the client’s past that have some impact on the presenting issues or that you believed were important to consider during your work with the client.

Part 2: Theoretical Approach

Describe the specific theoretical approach you used to conceptualize this client’s case. Identify a single theory as your main approach; if you integrated a second perspective into your work (such as integrating reality therapy into a cognitive therapy approach), you will need to identify how each theory contributed to your work with the client. Do not present more than two approaches or identify your work simply as being eclectic.

Discuss your rationale for selecting this theoretical perspective, and why you believed it was the most appropriate and effective approach to use. Support your statements with a minimum of 3 articles from current journals in the professional counseling literature that provide evidence for the use of this theory with the types of issues your client presented, and/or with clients similar to yours (in age, gender, ethnicity, background, or in other ways).

Describe how using this theoretical approach influenced the information you collected about the client during the first sessions. (For example, was it important for you to take a detailed history that included information about the client’s parents and early childhood experiences?) Again, support your ideas with references to the professional literature.

Part 3: Assessment and Diagnosis

Write out the diagnosis you developed for the client, using the definitions and format in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and identify the related ICD 10 code.

Discuss the process you used to formulate your assessment and diagnosis for this client.

· How did you incorporate information collected from the client during the first sessions to reach this diagnosis?

· Did you utilize any self-report instruments (such as symptom checklists, anxiety inventories, depression scales or other assessment processes)? If so how did this information help you to formulate a diagnosis?

· Did you consult with any other persons about the client (with his or her written permission) such as parents, teachers, physicians, and past therapists?

· What social-cultural factors did you need to consider when conceptualizing your client’s case and formulating your diagnosis?

Describe how the assessment and diagnosis process was integrated into your theoretical approach for working with the client. Did the information you gathered, and the diagnosis you formulated, assist you in working from this theoretical perspective more effectively? If so, provide examples; if not, discuss the reasons why.

Part 4: Counseling Goals

List three specific goals that you developed for working with this client. These should be goals that are related to the client’s presenting issues and the focus of therapy. Each goal should be measurable – meaning both you and the client have a clear way for assessing whether the goal has been reached.

· Describe how you incorporated assessment information and the client’s diagnosis into your choice of appropriate goals for counseling.

· Discuss how you considered your client’s social-cultural background and unique personal history when selecting these goals.

· How is each goal reflective of your theoretical approach, drawing from the key concepts and assumptions of that theory?

Assignment Specifications

Your Unit 5 assignment should be between 5–8 pages long and include a minimum of 4 references from current articles (no more than 10 years old) in professional journals. You can also include books and Web sites from professional organizations in your references. Please use direct quotations sparingly; you should paraphrase most of the information drawn from outside sources and present ideas in your own words. Remember to follow APA format for your citations.
