nutrition and food essay

Essay 1 (500 words) will be an argument paper concerning fast food in America.  You can use Fast Food Nation as a source for your information.  Don’t use other sources in your essay.  For this essay, you do not have to provide MLA documentation.  However, you must not copy from the book; you must put this information into your own words if you are going to use it, or quote it accurately if you are going to use the exact words.  Let us know who said it, and use proper punctuation.  Otherwise, it would be plagiarism.  If you are a little nervous about plagiarism, make sure you review the assigned plagiarism material.

Reread the helpful description of the argument in the Owl, which you can find in the Online Resources section of Blackboard.  Choose one prompt and write a 500-word argument essay.  Here are the prompts for Essay 1:

  1. Fast food companies, such as McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Burger King, have made children the target of their advertisements for years.  There was a movement some years ago to rein in the aggressive practices of fast food ads, but eventually the movement was defeated and the advertising grew even stronger.  Do you think fast food companies should be allowed to advertise their products directly to children, such as through commercials during cartoon programming?

  1. Some critics of fast food have compared fast food to harmful products, such as cigarettes and alcohol, because more people die from illnesses linked to poor diets than people die from cigarettes and alcohol.  The critics want fast food to be treated the same way with warnings and age limitations.  Do you agree?  (To get the full impact of the fast food diet, I recommend seeing Morgan Spurlock’s “Supersize Me,” a documentary that followed a man on his 30-day McDonald’s diet.)

  1. With fast food companies trying to increase their sales, they have resorted to selling their goods in school systems across the country.  Some school systems have been receptive because they are facing budget woes.  Do you think fast food should be available in schools?

Some important features of Essay 1:

  1. Structure of essay must follow the structure in “The Owl”

  2. Organization of argument must be clear

  3. Writing must be clear and concise

  4. Argument must be more than unsupported opinion.  Make sure you use a good balance of facts, logic, and examples.  You are trying to persuade the rest of the world with this essay.

  5. When using facts, logic, and examples, make sure you do not copy these facts, etc.  You are not required to use MLA documentation for this first essay, but simply copying another’s ideas is considered plagiarism.  Best advice: put the information into your own words, or if you are confident about the rules of quoting, then you can use some quotes.

  6. Grammatical errors must be at a minimum

Things to Avoid

  • Avoid overuse of the word “I.”  It is okay to use I if you have something pertinent to say, but mainly avoid it.  Of course, never use second person (you, your, yours, you’re, you’ll etc.).

  • Avoid using phrases such as:

  1. I think

  2. I believe

  3. I feel

  4. In my opinion

Part II
With habitat loss, less land and resources means lower carrying capacity. For the second part of this assignment, you will apply the readings from your Module 4 Home page to two cases in which conservation of habitat applies to carrying capacity and economics. Choose one of these large predators to investigate: African predators (lions, hyenas, etc.), cougars (mountain lions), or polar bears.

  1. What size of land/water is required to support this animal?
  2. What pressures threaten this organism’s habitat?
  3. What role does international trade and political regulation play in protecting this organism? Are these in place and enforced?

Cash Budgets

A cash budget helps an organization plan and control the movement of cash into and out of the company. It is important for an organization to have a good understanding of its cash needs in order to identify instances of cash idleness or shortage. Cash on hand allows the organization to make commitments to various stakeholders, including employees and suppliers. Idle cash represents missed opportunities to reinvest into the organization and to return value to shareholders.

In this Application, you will use the information on cash budgets outlined in the Resources to prepare a cash budget for Gladiator Robotics given the data provided in the scenario below.

You will create and use an Excel spreadsheet for your calculations for the problems below, and the spreadsheet you develop is what you submit for the Application. Note: The Resources section includes tutorials for those who might need help in designing and using an Excel spreadsheet.

Gladiator Robotics
Read the information below and complete Parts I, II and III
The board of directors of Gladiator Robotics is considering whether or not to donate to a national robotics convention for high school students interested in technology and engineering. The company sold equipment in February for $20,000 and received a dividend on investments of $4,000 in March.
Cash on hand as of January 1st is $14,000.
Material purchases are as follows:

The company wants to maintain a cash balance at the end of each month of at least $10,000. It has a $250,000 line of credit at the bank and will borrow from the bank in order to maintain this balance.
Part I: Prepare a monthly cash budget for January, February, and March following the template that is provided to complete.
Part II: Analyze the cash budget and make recommendations to the board of directors of Gladiator Robotics regarding your findings. Be specific regarding possible causes and remedies (if applicable).
Part III: What if any concerns do you have about the ability to make the donation? Also, do you have any concerns about cash on hand which might impact variable HR expenses such as recruitment costs or other commitments to employees including staffing, development or rewards? Be specific.

blood sugar meter

comment on this please,

I recently got a new blood sugar meter that connects via Bluetooth to my phone, and a dedicated app that receives and stores all my readings. It also has an option to upload that data directly to my doctor. Because of the benefits, my insurance company paid 100% of the cost for the new meter and the testing strips. Using that info with other apps that can track other data such as food and exercise, I’ve been able to better manage my sugars and have not only lost weight but feel better. I have a friend who has a blood pressure device that also transmits the data to his phone…there’s all sorts
