MASTERS DISSERTATION DEFENSE EVALUATION
Oral Defense Suggestions:  Oral Defense is of 20 minutes and will be with a panelist team (including the specific tutoring
supervisor) and an audience.  Use graphics pertinent to the topic  Use same font and background on each slide  Check for professional appearance, flow and unity throughout the presentation
 Proof read and edit the slides
Graphic Suggestion:  Power Points should have minimal verbiage  5 short word bullets  Or Two short sentences
Development of the slides:  Short, concise, summary statements  Include the key words/ phrases (this will help the audience to concentrate on the presenter and not
on the slides  Diagrams/ pictures/graphs/ charts are helpful
Title Page: Start with the title page that uses the title of the dissertation/researchers name/ department/
supervisor
Thanking:  Thanking the college/ faculty
 Supervisor/s  Other relevant people
Content:  Outline the content to be covered
 Topic  Problem statement
 Purpose of study
 Should clearly and explicitly state the reasons why the study is being done
 The impact of the study
 Significance  Theoretical/ conceptual framework
 Research questions- List all research questions exactly as they appear in the text of the
dissertation
 Research Method and Design
 Population sample- how it was selected/ reliability/ validity
 Data Collection and data analysis- Methods of data collection/ data analysis/ limitations (you may
need multiple slides)  Findings
 Use the organization structure from your chapter 4
 List each research question and conclusion as findings are based on evidence collected
 How do findings relate to literature/ conceptual frame work/ theoretical framework
 Use tables/ figures (call attention to significant findings)  Recommendations and Conclusion
 Who will benefit
 How can the results be disseminated to a larger population
 References/ Bibliography
 Questions
