The term “white lie” suggests that, in some situations, lying may be justified. For some people, however, lies are always unacceptable; to them, the term “white lie” is an oxymoron, a contradiction in terms that creates a slippery slope. In the political arena, is a government ever justified in withholding information that directly impacts its citizens? Recently this issue has been debated in relation to national security and the war on terrorism.
