health program

Implementing a health program involves many challenges.

Use the South University Online Library, the Internet, and personal interactions with your local health authorities to understand the various facets of implementing public health programs. Based on your research and understanding, respond to the following:

  • Explain the four categories of information, which provide a useful framework for organizing a community health program.
  • Describe the importance of assessing program implementation in a public health program.
  • There are three levels of program implementation. Describe each of them and the significance of each level of program implementation.
  • The public health pyramid is an overarching framework for public health planning and evaluation. Explain program implementation at the various levels of the public health pyramid.

social Marketing, Management, and Organizational Behavior

Transparent and accountable governance and strong leadership are the cornerstones of successful public health operations and delivery of public health services.

Respond to the following questions in relation to governance and leadership:

  • What are the differences between governance and leadership?
  • What systems or processes should public health agencies utilize to ensure communication and accountability between their governing board and leaders? Justify your answers.

According to Kotter (2001), ” . . . leadership and management are two distinctive and complementary systems of action. Each has its own function and characteristic activities. Both are necessary for success in an increasingly complex and volatile business environment.”

Respond to the following questions in relation to management and leadership:

  • What are the differences between leadership and management?
  • Why do you think Kotter described leadership and management as complementary systems of action?

In recent years, the optimal management structure has shifted from a narrow span of control to a broad or wide span of control. Earlier, three to seven individuals were reporting to the same manager (narrow span), whereas today, it is common to have twenty or more staff members reporting to the same person (broad span), as stated in the course textbook.

Based on the readings for this week, the South University Online Library, and the Internet, respond to the following discussion points:

  • Identify at least one pro and one con for each span of control described above.
  • State, with reasons, which of the two structures you would recommend.

Part 2

Several decades ago, Kotler and Zaltman (1971) first used the term “social marketing” to describe the application of marketing theory to solve social- and health-related issues. Since then, social marketing has grown in popularity and usage within the public health community, including within national agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local health departments. Some of the factors responsible for the success of national social marketing campaigns are the efficient use of financial resources to develop marketing strategies, consistent messages across geographic boundaries, and uniform evaluation measures.

Respond to the following discussion points in relation to social marketing campaigns:

  • What challenges might you expect when adapting a national social marketing campaign in your local community?
  • Recommend ways in which your local health department may address these challenges.

Needs Assessment

Community health assessments are used by health planners to identify, and prioritize health problems within a given community. To prioritize health programs and their development, a needs assessment is used. There are four types of needs that should be considered in a needs assessment. Although there is no single way to conduct a needs assessment, the basic steps to conducting a needs assessment can be identified.

Using the South University Online Library or the Internet, research about needs assessments and the types of health needs in your community. Based on your research, create a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document that:

  • Describes the four types of needs and compares them. Explains the interaction of the four types and the role of each type of need in the community assessment process.
  • Selects one of the four needs and provides an example of how this need can be applied to a health issue in your community. Describes the potential pitfalls of focusing a needs assessment on a single need. Provides examples to support your assertions.
  • Identifies and describes the basic steps of conducting a needs assessment and also explains the importance of each.
  • Describes any additional steps that should be considered in the assessment process.

Politics – Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

You only have to write one example (not 2) for each of the 3 category question. That means one example of either a civil liberties or civil rights event, and one example of a media event, and one example of a difference between the parties.)

Write a three to four (3-4) page paper in which the student answers the following three (3) items using headers to separate each item:

  1. Discuss either two (2) civil liberties or two (2) civil rights events (past or current) that have influenced a sense of social responsibility in the American government today. Provide examples to support your answer. Note: In your response, consider how the events influenced the way state, local or national political leaders or agencies responded in a socially responsible or ethical manner toward the community.
  2. Discuss two (2) media events (past or present) that have positively and or negatively influenced the public’s opinion of a government agency. Provide examples to support your answer. Note: Consider how a news story or media coverage of an event positively or negatively changed the public’s opinion (or perception) regarding how responsible a government agency should be towards meeting the needs of its customers; i.e. the American people.
  3. Discuss two (2) differences between the Republican and Democratic parties that may have an ethical impact (positively or negatively) on the American people. Provide examples to support your answer. Note: Consider the different ideals, values, morals, and/or goals held by the Republican and Democratic parties, and their different views on the ethically or morally right way to govern and make the best policies for the people they serve. Determine if your example presents any type of ethical concerns for or against the public interest of the American people.

Communicate risk

Use the following scenario. Review the scenario first and then continue on with your assignment.
You have been meeting with the CEO, the project sponsor, your manager, and the heads of all the other departments to discuss the project and their expectations. You are starting to be concerned about the level of risk of this project and whether or not the organization really understands it. As far as you can tell, the company has never done formal risk management, taking a more relaxed approach to risks. You are starting to develop your risk management plan; you will present it to your manager and the sponsor in two weeks along with some other project planning deliverables.
Assignment Guidelines:

  • Create a project charter and identify the key constraints of the project (scope, budget, timeline, quality, people resources, etc.).
  • Using the scenario from this unit, create a spreadsheet that lists all the project risks you see based on what you currently know about the project. List at least 15 risks. For each project risk, provide a:
    • Detailed description
    • Category (schedule, strategy, people, etc.)

Note: This list will be used in later activities throughout the course.
Your submitted assignment must include the following:

  • A 3-4 page typed document that includes:
    • A project charter and identification of key constraints
    • At least 15 risks listed in a spreadsheet with a detailed description and the category of each

cost budjet

The project is progressing well, and you have now been asked if there is enough time and budget to create and distribute a new marketing mailing. This mailing will be focused on a new international marketplace, so the existing materials cannot be used as is. The materials will need to be translated (external resource), have different graphics applied, and use different colors. The cost for mailing internationally is twice the cost of the domestic mailing, and the volume is 200,000–250,000 addresses. A mailing list will be purchased for this mailing because it is a new market for the company.
You need to determine the costs of this mailing (internal and external). You also need to determine the resource requirements and identify any conflicts. Jennifer and you have a working session later this week to pull together the information.

  • In preparation for the meeting, create a worksheet (in Excel or another spreadsheet tool) that you can use to create the budget for the new mailing.
  • Pre populate the worksheet with the components of the estimate, and provide directions to Jennifer in a procedures document (in Word) on how to create a three-point estimate for the resulting budget.
  • Be sure to also include the internal costs.
  • Also, create a schedule that identifies the deliverables, activities, and resources to produce this mailing.
  • Using the project schedule you created as a group, identify the resources you will use and what conflicts that may form (in Word).
  • Justify your choices.

Corporate Finance

Calculate the following problems and provide an overall summary of how companies make financial decisions in no more than 700 words, based on your answers:

  1. Stock Valuation: A stock has an initial price of $100 per share, paid a dividend of $2.00 per share during the year, and had an ending share price of $125. Compute the percentage total return, capital gains yield, and dividend yield.
  2. Total Return: You bought a share of 4% preferred stock for $100 last year. The market price for your stock is now $120. What was your total return for last year?
  3. CAPM: A stock has a beta of 1.20, the expected market rate of return is 12%, and a risk-free rate of 5 percent. What is the expected rate of return of the stock?
  4. WACC: The Corporation has a targeted capital structure of 80% common stock and 20% debt. The cost of equity is 12% and the cost of debt is 7%. The tax rate is 30%. What is the company’s weighted average cost of capital (WACC)?
  5. Flotation Costs: Medina Corp. has a debt-equity ratio of .75. The company is considering a new plant that will cost $125 million to build. When the company issues new equity, it incurs a flotation cost of 10%. The flotation cost on new debt is 4%. What is the initial cost of the plant if the company raises all equity externally

 short‐run aggregate supply curve

discuss:
The short‐run aggregate supply curve is considered the supply schedule of the economy only in the short‐run. The short‐run is the period that begins immediately after an increase in the price level and that ends when input prices have increased in the same proportion to the increase in the price level. The long‐run aggregate supply curve describes the economy’s supply schedule in the long‐run. The long‐run is defined as the period when input prices have completely adjusted to changes in the price level of final goods. There are two main factors that cause the aggregate supply curve to shift: economic growth and change in input prices. For example: Positive economic growth, labor and capital, increases GDP which will result in a shift to the right on the curve. A negative economic growth will decrease the level of GDP and result in a shirt to the left on the curve. With your own business, the supply curve is demonstrated through the goods and services that you plan on selling during a specific time period at a given price level.

Review

Following review of Time’s 2002 Persons of the Year article, consider the challenges each woman faced in her respective work environment in relation to Gonzalez’s sentiment that “just because you have the rank [of leader], doesn’t mean you are one.”

Choose one of the women and companies featured within the Time magazine article. Conduct additional research and identify new resources as needed to answer the following questions:

How did the organizational culture at the institution promote or discourage unethical behaviors and whistle-blowing?
What did institutional leaders do to perpetuate or prevent these corrupt behaviors?
