Counseling Theory- Person Centered Therapy

As you may have gathered through your required readings and the video for this module, the psychodynamic tradition has a rich history and has evolved over time to adapt to trends toward briefer forms of treatment. Concepts from the theory, such as defense mechanisms, transference, and counter-transference, are also used by most non-psychoanalytic counselors to supplement their work with clients.

Tasks:

discuss the different roles consultants play and explore how you would consult collaboratively

Each consulting engagement is unique, defined by the needs of the client, the scope of the work, and the role of the consultant. In your readings, consultants are categorized into the roles of experts, facilitators, and pairs of hands. Consultants perform effective roles. However, they can also fall into unsuitable roles. In such instances, the consultant needs to bring the problem to the client’s attention. Ideally, the consultant and the client should work together collaboratively to design, develop, and implement a solution that meets the customer’s needs.
For this assignment, you will discuss the different roles consultants play and explore how you would consult collaboratively. Additionally, you will consider the potential ethical and conflict-of-interest issues possible in this kind of close consulting relationship.
Directions:
Using your textbook and at least two additional scholarly resources from the Argosy University online library resources, research the roles of a consultant and collaborative consulting.
In three to five pages:
· Describe the different roles a consultant can fulfill.
· Explain a scenario wherein a consultant ended up in an undesirable role. Identify how the consultant could have changed the outcome to something more positive and productive for the client.
· Describe the concept of collaborative consulting and its effectiveness.
· Explain at least two to three ways in which a consultant can maintain integrity and ethical standards when working closely with clients.
Your final product will be in a Microsoft Word document approximately three to five pages in length. You will utilize at least two scholarly sources in your research. Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Social Work program

Final Project

Once you graduate and obtain your first job out of your Master of Social Work program, you may be asked to identify the gaps in services at your new agency. You may be asked to create a new group or help to identify a new evidence-based intervention that can be introduced to the clients. Understanding how to research the current literature, and then choose and evaluate an intervention, is an important component of being a successful social worker. For this course, you have researched new and interesting interventions that are currently being used with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. Further, you have explored the importance of connecting theory to practice.
For this Assignment, use will practice steps in Evidence-Based Practice. 1) You will think of a practice problem. 2) You then conduct a literature review on available research. 3) You will evaluate the evidence to determine which intervention to use. 4) You will consider client values and your clinical expertise. 5) You will think about what you hope the client gains from this intervention (i.e., decreased depression, increased quality of life, decreased PTSD symptoms) and consider how you might measure this change.
To prepare:
· Choose a population of interest to you.

  • Children
  • Adolescents
  • Adults
  • Elderly/Aging

· Choose a presenting problem (depression, family conflict, homelessness, etc.) related to the population of interest.
· Conduct a literature review focused on the presenting problem within the population of interest.
Submit an 8-page scholarly paper supported with a minimum of six peer-reviewed articles as references. In the paper, you should:
· Briefly describe the population and presenting problem you are focusing on for this assignment.
· Provide a review of the articles you reviewed from this project and explain what you learned from conducting this research.
· Briefly describe at least 2 evidence-based interventions currently used for your chosen population when addressing this particular problem. Provide supporting references when explaining the evidence behind the interventions.
· Explain which of these interventions you might choose to use and why.
§ Consider client values and your clinical expertise and how those might affect your decision of which intervention to use.
· Describe how you might apply the specific skills and techniques of the chosen intervention.
· Briefly explain how you could measure the outcomes of this intervention.
· Explain any cultural considerations that you need to take into account when working with this population or the particular presenting problem.
· Discuss how the Code of Ethics applies when working with this particular presenting problem and population.
· Explain how you would apply a trauma-informed lens when working with this population.
Support your Final Project with specific references to the resources. Be sure to provide full APA citations for your references.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

Discussion 1:
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

While historically post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been addressed chiefly as an issue faced by veterans, it has only been quite recently that the awareness of the impact of war has begun to increase. As veterans return from combat, we are learning even more clearly the dire need for mental health approaches to address the impact of war on soldiers. The media has started to highlight the need for interventions to address this mental health issue, publishing the staggering statistics on veteran suicides. According to the Suicide Data Report, 2012 (Kemp & Bossarte, 2013, p. 18), veterans and active duty military are taking their lives at the rate of 22 a day. This number can be reduced with the proper type of prevention and intervention strategies. Consider Jake Levy and his struggle with PTSD, and the most recent interventions used to address its symptoms.
For this Discussion, review the program case study for the Levy family.
· Post your description of the interventions used by the practitioner.
· Identify the specific skills and tools used with Jake to address PTSD.
· What other skills might you use with Jake to address his symptoms?
· Explain why these might be important to help Jake heal emotionally.

presentation on the dangers of alcohol and tobacco use

Assignment For this task, imagine that you have been invited to your local middle school or high school to deliver a presentation on the dangers of alcohol and tobacco use. Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that would be appropriate to attract the attention of this age group, inform them of the dangers involved, and dissuade them from beginning or continuing use of these substances.
You may use appropriate charts, or graphics, visuals, or other effects to support your presentation. Each slide must be accompanied by speaker notes (the area below each slide) of at least 100-150 words. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists. PowerPoint tip: keep the words on each slide brief (such as bulleted points or captions) and include the majority of the information you would be presenting in the speaker notes area for each slide.
Support your presentation by at least five outside references; two may be from scholarly websites. The remaining three should be from peer-reviewed journals published within the past 5 years. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including older articles, may be included.  Be sure to include a reference list as notes to the final slide.
Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)
Notes Length: 100 – 150 words for each slide
Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information.

Foundations Of Mental Health Counseling – First Session

I need this back on Feb 2nd by 2pm.  2 references

In Module 4, you learned about the direct and indirect functions performed by clinical mental health counselors before, during, after, and outside the counseling relationship. You were taught that counseling is a process that occurs in stages. At each stage, clinical mental health counselors engage in a variety of activities that are purposeful and intentional. Some of the activities performed by counselors during those stages include building the relationship and establishing rapport, gathering information, conceptualizing the case, and performing assessment and diagnosis where appropriate, with the end goal and activity being the collaborative development of an appropriate treatment plan. As you think about the counseling process and the role of the clinical mental health counselor, consider the following scenario:

Scenario:

Aalia is a 17-year-old Muslim female from Pakistan. Her family has been in the United States for 7 years. Aalia was referred to a counselor by her family doctor because she has experienced several behavioral changes over the past 2 months. She takes less interest in school and community activities and has started to isolate herself in her room at home. Her siblings describe her as irritable and moody. Aalia has had occasional crying spells over the past month and she reported unexplained weight loss over the past 2 months. She does not have a formal diagnosis. As you plan for your first session with Aalia, think about what you will do.

Tasks:

In a minimum of 200 words, respond to the following:

Support your rationale and analysis by using at least two resources from professional literature in your response. Professional literature may include peer-reviewed journal articles you can access through the Argosy University online library resources; relevant textbooks; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (websites ending in .edu or .gov).
Be sure to read all of your classmates’ original posts and respond to more than two of your classmates’ posts. Your responses should be substantive, meaning they should encourage further dialogue and discussion, encourage your classmates to think about other aspects of the topic, compare your response to your classmates’ responses, or ask a relevant question, to better assist you with your understanding. Responses such as “I like/I agree” or “I don’t like/I don’t agree” are not complete enough.
Your discussion posts and all written assignments should reflect graduate-level writing skills and appropriate use of APA style, including in-text citations and references.

Submission Details:

  • By the due date assigned, post your responses to the Discussion Area.
  • Through the end of the module, respond to more than two of your classmates’ posts. While responding, describe how your objectives for the session are similar to and different from the objectives discussed by your classmates. Critique the additional information your classmates would like to obtain and how they would go about obtaining the information. Explain what you might do differently, or do in the same way, and why.

Virtual Poster Conference

For a written transcript, please click herePreview the documentView in a new window.   Poster presentations at conferences are effective methods of communicating research findings. The discussion of the research being presented is a key element in poster conferences. During professional conferences, poster presenters speak with other psychology professionals providing insights into the information offered within the poster as well as explaining key elements of the research findings. See the PSY699 Poster submission guidelines (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. for templates and guidelines to aid in the creation of your poster.  For this week’s discussion, you will be submitting a link to your Pathbrite folder where your colleagues will find your poster presentation along with a brief detailed explanation of the materials included in it. Poster presentations are typically informal affairs with limited time for presenters to provide extra information. In keeping with this, your explanations of the materials will be limited to specific parameters. To explain the research presented in your poster, you will be creating a 3- to 5-minute screencast video. You may use any screencast software to create this video. (For further assistance with specific free-use screencast software please see the Quick-Start Guide for Screencast-O-Matic (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.) Within the screencast video, you will create a voice over that will point out unusual, unique, and important aspects of the research presented in the poster. Be certain to visually indicate the specific sections or headers where the elements are located to guide your viewers through the materials. The link to the screencast will be attached to the poster page within your Pathbrite Portfolio so that your colleagues may interact with your insights into the materials.

social behavior

  1. Consider your own social behavior and the various normative and informational social influences you encounter in everyday life.  Then, complete the following activities.
  2. Appraise your behavior.  For 24 hours, keep a log of every behavior in which you engage that is due to conformity or obedience.
  3. Select one of the following:
    • Choose one mundane behavior from your log that is based on a social norm.  Violate this norm.  Be sure you are not breaking any rules or laws or putting yourself at risk in any way.  Here is a link to a number of examples, but feel free to come up with your own (or google search for additional ideas):  http://www.radford.edu/~jaspelme/social/examples_of_norm_violations.htm (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.
    • Spend 24 hours living “A Day of Nonconformity”, living each minute as uninfluenced as possible (without infringing on the rights of others).  Strive to be your true, unfettered self.
  4. Examine your social influence log and your experience living a day of nonconformity/violating a social norm.  Include the following in your summary:
    • To what extent is your everyday behavior shaped by social influence?
    • How do people react when you do not conform/obey?  What factors influence people to follow?

Post your initial response of 250 words or more by Day 3 (Thursday).  Respond to at least two of your peers by Day 7 (Monday).  You are encouraged to post one or more of your required replies early each week (e.g., by Saturday) to stimulate more meaningful and interactive discourse in the discussion forum.  In addition, strive to provide a response to classmates who replied to your initial post and/or the Instructor (if applicable).  Peer responses may vary in length but should be carefully crafted and insightful.  Below are some suggestions to assist your thinking.
Guided Response:  Reply to at least two or more peers overall.  The goal of the discussion forum is to foster continual dialogue, similar to what might occur in a verbal face-to-face exchange.  Consider the following in your responses:

  • What about your peer’s experience was most surprising?
  • How would you have reacted to the nonconformity of your peer?

Groupthink And Conformity

Respond to the following discussion topics:
1-      According to the textbook, a leader can have a major influence on whether or not groupthink will occur. Describe four (4) ways in which a leader could affect groupthink. Additionally, give two (2) examples of a leader in history that has promoted groupthink. Describe at least two (2) ways groupthink could have been avoided in your example.

2-      Explain the power of social influence based on the findings of Milgram’s experiment. Provide two (2) examples of a situation you have been in where you felt you had to conform to someone or something. Indicate whether you felt you had to conform because of informational or normative influence, and explain the main reasons for your indication.
Please meet the deadline and provide a 100% original work
